Hardware doesn't fit properlyKateI'd been eyeing this piece for a while. I thought it would be adorable if my cat liked it enough to hang out inside it (so far, he's not a fan). It was challenging to put together becuase the metal legs don't line up with the screw holes. I found it impossible to get all three screws in both sides (even after requesting new hardware). It seems sturdy enough with two screws on both sides, though. The difficulty with assembly really annoyed me, but otherwise this is well made.

Rattan is a fast-growing palm tree that needs to be boiled and sun-dried before it can be tamed into different shapes that we can sit on, rest in, or decorate our homes with. This is where the professional weavers come in. “We wouldn’t be able to make authentic rattan products without them. They have skills that can’t be copied by machines”, says Andreas Fredriksson, who has designed some of our rattan furniture together with the artisans.

If rattan is treated right it can be transformed into almost anything, even furniture with generous forms that can fit in a flat pack. But the design is not only up to the designer and the artisan. “You have to cooperate with Mother Nature and come up with some new solutions as well – but the reward when you get everything to harmonize makes it worthwhile”, finishes Andreas.

What is rattan?
Rattan is a climbing plant belonging to the palm tree family. It grows as a vine on tree trunks, its fast-growing tendrils easily reaching 60, and sometimes more than 300, feet long. They can be harvested without harming the host trees and grow back quickly once harvested. We use this lightweight, flexible and durable material in products like armchairs, rocking chairs, side tables, outdoor furniture and for handmade baskets.
