“I was inspired by classic industrial furniture typically used in workshops during the 50’s, as well as Meccano, to create the design,“ Lina says. “The idea was to create these beautiful storage units that have double the weight carrying capacity of any other shelves we were making at the time.” Engineer Philip Nedergaard made sure that the design held true to the heavy-duty ambition. “We built some of what we call ‘worst-case scenarios’ by loading the shelves high with concrete bags to really test that the shelves could safely hold almost anything you would want to keep in a garage,“ he says.

Great shelf for enemiesDanielleThe bars are too long for the shelves, the centre pieces are too high and the shelves don’t sit flat. Also very loud to assemble and will require some bending due to the bars not being the right sizes and having the holes in the wrong places. Do not recommend purchase. Everything bends too easily and cheaply made. Would be a good shelf to send to your worst enemy as they spend too much of their lives trying to assemble a basic piece of furniture that is just a few mm off which makes assembly incredibly difficult.

Worst Ikea product I've ever boughtSeanShelves don't sit right and one corner or another is always popping out. Thin (and thinly painted) steel very easily damaged during the normal course of assembly. I've assembled dozens of Ikea products over the years and never understood the cliches/stereotypes about what a PITA it is, until now. If this was the first Ikea product I bought I would never go back.

NOT Heavy DutyJasonThis product is advertised as both heavy duty and garage shelving but it doesn't meet either of those standards at all. The pieces are flimsy from the start and assembly is a pain compared to other Ikea products. During assembly I had one piece bend itself useless while I was following the instructions. Instructions are also not included which is a negative. If you compare this price wise to more expensive heavy duty shelving it should be obvious this product is going to be a let down but I wanted to give Ikea the chance and I regret it. I bought one set of uprights and a 4 shelf pack to give this product range a try as I need to fill a room with shelves and not only will I not be buying Brors for that room I'm going to have to return this poor product.
A lot of people say buyer beware but this product is flagrantly misadvertised and that needs to change.

Very Sturdy StorageColetteGot a bunch of these for my basement, and I love them. Very sturdy with lots of room for items. I love that the shelves don't move, and IKEA has cleverly made it very easy to attach them. You do have to make sure you hammer the shelf bars very firmly (a rubber mallet is ideal) otherwise they are quite moveable. My biggest complaint is the middle support bar for the shelves. They are difficult to put in as they keep popping out, and don't seem very secure--they fall over quite easily if you hit them. However, once the shelf is installed on top, they do their job properly. And they look great. A big improvement over the IVAR shelves I replaced.

The strongest storage we’ve made so far
Does your garage sometimes feel like a lost civilization? Pyramids of paint cans grouped around the car, sports equipment you can’t remember even using and forgotten hobbies in boxes stacked high. IKEA product developer Lina Ringefelt wanted to help out. The outcome: the heavy-duty BROR storage system.
Lina and her team researched peoples’ garage needs and found that there’s an interest in everything from full-on hobby rooms, to a place to pot plants and work on cars, as well as storage for everything from heavy power tools to seasonal equipment. Many people also want lockable, closed and open storage that could hold very heavy loads.

The result is an adjustable series of shelving units with closed and open storage, including a cart that serves as a movable shelf and workstation. But perhaps the series biggest calling card is its combination of looks and function. BROR could definitely be used in the home too.

A real tough one
BROR storage system can withstand a lot. The widest and deepest shelves actually hold 285 lbs. and the smallest shelves can hold 154 lbs. This means that you can store both tires and heavy flower pots without problems. We know this since we tested the storage system by filling the shelves with concrete bags – all to ensure that they can safely hold almost anything you can imagine storing, regardless if the surroundings are tropically moist or dry and freezing cold.
