Quality control is poor.AndrewThe position of the holes for the anti-tipping brackets' screws is incorrect. The holes are at the front of the unit. No holes at the back. Duh.
Misleading depiction of productMichaelMy previous Billy bookcases lasted 30 years, so I am a repeat customer. By ordering this product I was expecting a double unit, but instead received two single units to place side by side. I thought my order had been screwed up. I was only able to clear this up after spending 20+minutes chatting online, only to be told this particular detail is in the What’s Included section of the product description. I’m frustrated by the fact IKEA has assigned a different item number to what is actually two single units. I just hope the two singles will align uniformly once they are assembled and in place.
Exceeded my expectations!MekaiahI set up the ikea billy bookcase with OXBERG doors. I was nervous about how difficult it would be to attach the doors and have them be in the right spots but the design makes these look flawless and it’s so easy. The oxberg doors elevate the bookshelf and it looks higher end than it really is. Totally recommend

Works Perfectly for UsKelseyWhile the wood and color don’t really seem to hold up against bumps... we bought three of these to line a wall and act as a pantry. Works well, assembled easily enough until you went to adjust the door heights. I dislike the new shelf pegs, and think they are awkward and terrible to remove if height adjustment is needed. We frosted the glass for a different look too.

We took a closer look at BILLY and came up with some ideas. One of them means more efficient use of materials, and another makes the bookcase easier to assemble and take apart.
“BILLY was introduced in 1979 and has helped millions of people to organize books and other things in the home. But the world has changed a lot since then, and even popular big-sellers need to adapt to new demands and ways of living,” says Umut Ates, one of our co-workers.
Paper means smarter use of raw materials

BILLY fits just as well in the living room as in other areas of the home – the office, dining room or library. It’s easy to expand and combine with other furniture. But one thing that has had potential for improvement is how the bookcase is assembled and taken apart. “Previously, you had to nail about 50 small nails to get the back panel in place, but that’s history now. Instead, you snap on the back panel without any tools,” explains Umut. It also makes it easier to disassemble BILLY without damaging it if you move or want to resell your bookcase. “The improvements have made BILLY more adaptable – it can keep up changing life situations – and it wouldn’t surprise me if this storage hero is as popular in 40 years as it is today.”
