A flimsy shadow of the former BillyKristaThe updated Billy is not worth the buy. I know they updated the back panel to make it easier to disassemble for moving, but given how thin and easily damaged the new paper foil is, this bookcase will be tossed when moving. My other two billy bookcases have survived 3 moves but they were better made. You can see the particleboard texture on the shelf edges under the paper foil- not smooth like the old ones I wish IKEA would stop trying to lower prices by making lower quality products. I would rather pay more for something that doesn't dent during assembly.
Billy be goodRaymondThe Billy book case is perfect for my needs. Used it as a display case with glass doors. Easy to build and thankfully the delivery fellows were able to drop them off on the second floor. I would have given 5 stars if it was a little cheaper but otherwise a solid bookcase.
Very good! CatherineThis is the first Billy book shelve we bought, and we wonder why we took so long! The soft brown colour is very nice, the shelves are sturdy and roomy. We added Oxberg doors to give it a clean look. Very happy!

New and improved!AshleeI have been a long time fan of the Billy Bookcase. Price point is perfect and so is the quality. I was always frustrated by securing the backing rather than panel with the tiny nails. No matter how precise I tried to be one always managed to miss and go through the shelf. They have illuminated this frustrating task and changed it to pre-drilled holes where you instal a plastic plug and then a securing plastic nail. This is so much more efficient and less frustrating! Thank you ikea!!
GoodMatthewPretty good bookcase. It is a little wobbly. But, it includes wall mounting brackets & screws. I just don't have confidence in my ability to install it alone.
Also, I would prefer to be able to freely move the bookcase to different spots.
And, I wish the shelf bracket holes were slightly closer together, for a tighter fit on shelves, for certain items. (Funko POPs)

pictures are not accurateSaadoverall the bookshelf is decent. The backboard is absolutely not how it is in the pictures. Backboard is a 3 piece 1/8 mdf that is taped together to make one piece. It looks absolutely horrible you can see 2 massive lines in the back, there is almost no grain, it does not match the bookcase grain at all. Complete eyesore with the backboard
Extremely disappointed with the change to veneerJenniferI used to love the Billy bookcase. Unfortunately, I had one that sustained some water and mold damage, so I ordered a replacement. I absolutely hate the new veneer. While it objectively doesn't look that different from the old bookcase, it just feels wrong and you can tell the quality has decreased. The bookcase I got has either small bubbles or sand/dirt disruption in the veneer towards the top of the right side front edge. While I am happy with the change to the back panel assembly, I'm not sure I would recommend because of the new veneer.
Disappointing MehrdadThe new version of Billy is made with such poor quality that it gets scratch even with your nail. The white color is off and doesn't match other white furnitures from IKEA. I am so disappointed at this bookcase.

Beautiful new color!RominaAfter having the white Billys for some time, I was highly excited to see the new walnut color and had to get these. I replaced my whole bookcase and it looks much more elegant than before. The quality has overall gone done for IKEA in recent years, but I still find these to look much better than some other products. Damage occurs easily during assembly and there were some scratches when opening the box, but after assembly I have not had any damage occur. Everyone comments on how beautiful my bookcase is, so I'd still recommend these highly if you, like me, cannot afford a solid wood bookshelf. However, if you can, it's probably worth going for higher quality and longevity.

Billy Book CasePaulJust added a couple more of these book cases to my home office space. I would liked to have purchased a few extra shelves, but they were not available instore or online at the time of purchase. I like the book cases. but the back panel of one was misshapen and ended up getting damaged when we tried to install it. Fortunately the books on the shelf cover it, but I know it's there... Will most likely get the Oxford doors for these. I like them as is, but I think the doors is abetter look for the space. The cases were easy to assemble, less the oddly shaped panel. Colour was on point and all of the parts and pieces were i n the boxes.

The paper veneer is awfulAnonymous reviewerThe paper veneer they use damages soooooo easily. Anytime you drag anything across the shelf that isn’t perfectly smooth it will tear some of the paper veneer off. Do not place anything metal on these shelves as it will rip the paper veneer off if you even slightly drag it when picking the item up or placing it down.
Billy big and small work well togetherChristineAfter a recent flood in our house, I needed to replace all my bookcases. Buying the two sizes meant that there were no awkward gaps in the corners. I was so pleased with the new colour and the new arrangement that I purchased 15 regular size and 6 small bookcases. The result is impressive. No one would notice that the corners are not all at perfect right angles, but they still hold together with a small bracket we found in a hardware store. What an excellent result from a very upsetting event!
