DO NOT REMOVE THE PLASTIC FILMCrystalI purchased this today for my new Besta TV console. I was super excited to get the glossy look. Upon opening the package there were no instructions that indicated the film should stay on. One side did not have a plastic film. I assumed the film was to protect the glass from fingerprints so I installed the glass with the bare side down. THIS IS WRONG and NOT clearly indicated on Ikea's instructions. I painstakingly removed the film which is incredibly hard to pull off. In hindsight that should have been the indicator but hindsight is 20/20 because what I realized after doing that was that the glass was very dark with no gloss. Upon closer inspection you can see that the side with the film was dipped into a paint to make it opaque. Additionally, at this stage it became apparent that the film is to keep the glass shatterprooof allowing the glass to hold together in case it breaks. For future buyers, KEEP THE FILM ON. THAT IS THE BOTTOM!!3
Protective film is a painSteveThe protective film is not only practically hell to remove as it destroy itself each square inches, but it leaves glue residue who is a pain to remove. Please, put a thick plastic as on TVs front panel or at least, a film who do not break.1

Nice accent topper to Besta cupboards.AnonymousNice topper for the Besta line. I had to return my original one because it had burrs and could have cut fingers or damage softer and wood furniture. Better QC would help.3

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
