Tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger and more resistant to breaking than regular glass. If it breaks, it shatters into many granular pieces to reduce the risk of injury.

Attaching to cabinet is kinda frustratingMelissaNice shelves but in order to secure them you need to screw under the shelf itself. This is tricky if your screwdriver is long or if the shelf is close to the bottom of the cabinet or another shelf.4
Elegant touchStefanieJust installed them in my Bestå shelf-unit and it gives it a very elegant touch. It was super-easy to install (with the right tool) and in regards of the stubborn sticker: place a wet, soapy sponge on top of the sticker, let it soak 2-3minutes, wipes of easy peasy!!!5

Nice glass shelf but a NIGHTMARE to remove stickerAnonymous reviewerI bought 20 of these glass shelves for our Besta wall unit. Everything was going smoothly until it was discovered that the IKEA part number sticker that IKEA puts on everything just won't come off easily without using your thumbnail and 99% Isopropanol to clean up the mess. The sticker tears when you try to peel it off and leaves bits and pieces everywhere on the glass. The sticky residue requires a serious cleaner which I found 99% Isopropanol worked well on but make sure wear medical gloves or be prepared for dry cracked skin. Still, with the Isopropanol, each glass shelf took about 6 to 7 minutes to clean all signs of the IKEA sticker off. When all was said and done, I had spent just over two hours cleaning those glass shelves before even mounting them. The next day I found that both thumbnails hurt a lot from trying to remove the stickers.1

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
