When the assembled lamp stands next to the packaging, it can be hard to see how it can fit there at all. A part of the explanation is the cross-shaped base. “We realized that we could make a cross instead of a round base – both to save material and to make the lamp dividable. The cross also adds a unique design element.” The lampshade is made of soft plastic and rolled up like a tube in the packaging. When mounted on the lamp base, it spreads the light both evenly and beautifully.
This table lamp with a clean design assembles in a flash. And since the packaging is compact, we can fit many on the same pallet. Good for the environment – and one of the reasons behind the low price.

The most frustratingCassandraI'm a teacher and have these in my classroom. They were cheap and easy to put together however they are the MOST annoying lamp I've ever purchased. There are 3 little black "hooks" that attach to hold on the lamp shade. In a classroom we loose at least 1 of the hooks a day and then 95% of the time our lampshades are just hanging on by 1 or 2 hooks. Would not purchase again for such a busy space

It took several attempts to get all 3 spokes into the holes as once you but 2 in , one would drop out when you tried putting in the 3rd. This is after you figure out which way the shade is assembled. It would be nice to have 2 sided tape to. attach the ends instead of trying to fit the ends together. This lamp also uses a bulb you would use for a night light so you have to get the right size. Be careful because it is very light and can get knocked over. However it does look cute in a kid’s bedroom.

Big design in a small package
Every now and then you need to think outside the famous box to achieve something innovative. But, when we developed BARLAST lamp, we instead stayed inside the box. The goal was a really good lamp at a really good price, and that made the packaging a decisive starting point. From there, we worked our way backwards with materials and design.
Cecilia Sondell Banke, one of our product engineers involved in the work with BARLAST, explains why the packaging can be so crucial for the price: “Transportation is often an essential part of the product cost. By packing the lamp efficiently, we avoid transporting air, and the total cost becomes lower.”

A lower price must never mean compromises with quality. To secure stability and that BARLAST fulfils all legal demands, we made thorough calculations and tough tests. “The products with the lowest price are often the most challenging to develop. All our specialists need to be on board from the start, and we have to think through the whole process step by step. But, they are also very creative projects that we learn a lot from. And when it comes to BARLAST it resulted in a really nice lamp in a small package,” Cecilia sums up.
