Want to be more than a window gardener?
It’s time to think outside the window box. You can create mini gardens all over your home. In the most unexpected places – like hanging in the stairway. It’s just a matter of seeing your space in a new light (and seeing the light in your space) and finding plants to match.
The living wall art
Turn a wall (any wall) into a garden with a few slim-line shelves. Maximise wall height and build upwards.
Perfect plant: mini cacti are great. Lightweight and low maintenance, they are well suited to tip-toe-height shelves.
The doorway garden
Bring life to dead space above your doors with a plant-laden shelf. Paint the shelf the same colour as the wall and it vanishes into the background. Let a few tumbling tendrils frame the doorway.
Perfect plant: ivy is a great door framer. Plus, it likes hiding in shady places, away from direct sunlight.
The bathroom rainforest
With a few plastic boxes with suction cups you can turn your bathroom walls into a thriving mini rainforest. And for a real rainforesty feel, bunch several plants together.
Perfect plant: ferns love warm, damp environments. So a bathroom (with all that steam) is ideal. Just make sure the area isn’t too dark.
