IKEA recalls LURVIG water dispenser for pets due to suffocation hazard for dogs and cats
Effective immediately, IKEA Canada is recalling the LURVIG water dispenser for pets due to risk for dogs and cats getting their heads stuck in the dome of the water dispenser with possible suffocation as consequence.
July 11, 2018 (Burlington, ON)- Effective immediately, IKEA Canada is recalling the LURVIG water dispenser for pets due to risk for dogs and cats getting their heads stuck in the dome of the water dispenser with possible suffocation as consequence. IKEA urges customers to stop using the water dispenser and return it to any IKEA store for a full refund.
IKEA globally has received reports of two incidents where dogs got their heads stuck in the dome of the LURVIG water dispenser and suffocated. The LURVIG water dispenser was sold in Canada from October 2017 to July 2018 and 7,767 units have been sold in Canada. There have been no reported incidents in Canada.
“At IKEA, the safety and security of our products is our top priority, which is why we have decided to recall the LURVIG water dispenser.” says Petra Axdorff, Business Area Manager at IKEA of Sweden AB. “We are deeply saddened by these events and know that pets are important and loved family members for many of our customers.”
Customers should return their LURVIG water dispenser at the Returns & Exchange department at any IKEA store or call IKEA Customer Service toll-free, 1-800-661-9807 for a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required by IKEA for this recall.
