Perfect SturdyGailenethis is the best shoehorn I have ever found, love the metal, so solid and makes putting on shoes so much easier.5
Helping hand for putting on shoesJoleneThis product is a game changer. Made of metal so not flimsy like other shoe horns I’ve tried. Makes the reach from the shoe to the putting on a dream for people with limit mobility. Its long sleek design makes storing it on any coat rack a dream.5
Long shoe hornDevanI bought one last year and really liked it. Much better than the plastic ones on the market and well priced.5
Long shoehornLindellNice and strong, no bending5
Finally a long shoe horn that’s won’t snap!KatelynThis shoehorn is absolutely amazing! It’s fairly priced and so handy for those of us for a bit taller. I like that it has a handle to hang on things I love that it’s metal so it won’t bend and break if you have a tight shoe that you’re putting on. It’s so great that you can use it while you’re standing. Great job Ikea. I have bought many of these and given so many as gifts. Everyone is shocked to find out they are from Ikea.5
Finally, a durable shoehornWilfredMy kids grew up using several IKEA OMSORG shoehorns over the years. But the plastic hardens and cracks. The soft rubber trims also hardens and crumbles. Thankfully, with OMTÄNKSAM, it will no longer crack and the extended length is perfect for grown kids and adults. Metal is also more slippery than plastic, making it easier to slip into the shoes.5
Great designStephLove a good shoe horn. The long metal design is far more sturdy than the plastic. I have one in each closet. Highly recommend.5
Good to useWinnieIt has a wilder base which will give a good support to the ankle.5
Now better than then beforeBryanWe used to have the plastic one. It broke easy with kids. This new design is perfect and it’s much better too because it’s longer and sturdy. Since we’re a tall family.5
Super practical! MariaVery sturdy and long - perfect! 5

Finally it is long enough <3Ninathe perfect shoehorn for us - we are both very tall! It really suits us wonderful5
U need thisRobertPurchased a few for my elderly parents. They find it sturdy and easy to use without having to bend to put on their shoes. Similar and less sturdy are more expensive elsewhere.5
A Robust Long ShoehornChristopherI credit IKEA with the introduction of long shoehorns. They are key to the comfort of all who have difficulty bending to put on a shoe. The original plastic ones tend to crack with the twisting that often comes with their use. The metal editions make absolute sense.5
Will outlive usMarielFor over a decade we had a Murvel shoe horn, but with time and use it became brittle until it broke. This one is metal and will likely be passed from one generation to the other :-)5
ShoehornTeresaI bought this for my parents who are elderly and it has changed the safety around putting on their shoes ensuring that they have their balance and don't fall. We love it.5
Nice LengthKatieSturdy shoehorn that doesn’t break5

Because we all need a hand sometimes

We don't always like to admit it, but at some time in life we all could use a little more support around the home. It might be a more supportive chair when pregnant, a longer shoehorn after running a marathon, or just more everyday assistance due to the natural process of ageing. That’s where the OMTÄNKSAM range comes in. Designed with input from ergonomists, physiotherapists and researchers in the care industry, it makes activities around the home safer, easier and more comfortable. Little surprise that the Swedish word OMTÄNKSAM simply means "caring”.

Our creative leader Britt Monti was the main force that pushed the project forward. "If you look into IKEA catalogues from the 60's you'll see we used to speak about comfort and support for older people or people with back problems for example," Britt explains. "But since the 80's we just didn't have this customer in mind when developing a range." Britt spoke with researchers, physiotherapists and doctors as well as people working in the caretaking field. The research gave a better picture on how best to support the body in doing basic household activities.

Style and ergonomic design can work together

"We wanted the range to be something that you would be proud to have in your home from a style perspective, the only difference is that in function it's more user friendly and supportive." For Britt one of the standouts has been a new take on tableware. "I've been interviewing people living in elderly homes and one thing that stood out was that a lot of people stopped using their porcelain when they ate because they're afraid it would break, or that they might feel clumsy using it," Britt says. The OMTÄNKSAM range helps people keep their independence and do the things they've always been able to do, whether it's putting on shoes, enjoying a drink or getting out of their chair.

Material

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.
