New manufacturer, Poor qualityClarkFairly new to the Ikea experience and was so impressed with the first one of these I purchased in January. Everything fit together perfectly. Went back in March to purchase another one and was so disappointed. While unpacking I noticed the finish on the back edge of all the shelves had a area that was missed with the coating process, so you had a line of white exposed particle board. This was on all five of the shelves but over looked this because it was at the back of the shelf and it would be a lot of trouble to return. Further assembly revealed that 2 of the 4 vertical columns that the shelfs attached to had issues. 2 pieces join to make each column and they did not align properly. Stopped right there and returned everything. Discover that there was a new supplier for the second shelf. At the store all of the other shelves had new suppliers code so took a refund. Although I received a refund it wad a lot of wasted time. This has really down graded my option of IKEA.

Note: bolt heads remain visible on each side but don't look 'industrial'.

What is particleboard?
Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.
