Ceiling mounted range hoods
Ceiling-mounted range hoods give you the freedom to have a cooktop on a kitchen island or elsewhere. We have a variety of and extractor fans designs to choose from, so you can find one that suits your style. Whichever one you choose, you can count on it keeping your kitchen air fresh.
The sky’s the limit
Okay, actually, your ceiling is the limit here, but we’re not here to tell you how to dream. Perhaps you’re tired of bumping elbows while cooking on your stovetop beneath a built-in range hood set into the wall. We all want a little more space. Wanna get away while not going anywhere? Head to the islands—or the island. Putting in a new kitchen island that frees us space to flex your cooking muscles and socialize is easy with the smooth addition of a ceiling-mounted range hood overhead.
Ceiling-mounted range hoods: ducted or ductless?
When installing a ceiling-mounted range hood for a new stove in the middle of your kitchen, you have options to suit your space and needs. If existing ductwork is already in place above your kitchen island, installation is straightforward. But if adding new ductwork is costly or impractical, a ductless system is a great alternative. It effectively traps grease, odours, and debris using HVI-certified charcoal filters and a powerful suction fan that recirculates clean air back into the kitchen.
On the other hand, a ducted system is ideal for those who want to expel heat, humidity, and cooking fumes outdoors. This option provides stronger ventilation and can be quieter if paired with an inline exhaust fan positioned inside the ductwork rather than directly over the stove.
Measure your expectations to exceed them
Choosing the right island range hood starts with precise measurements. To maximize efficiency, ensure your hood is installed 30-36 inches above your stovetop. The depth should cover your back burners while still allowing you to lean in comfortably without bumping your head. If you cook frequently, consider a wider hood—about 3 inches extra on each side—for better coverage.
Your choice should also depend on your cooktop type. Gas cooktops produce higher BTUs (British Thermal Units) and require stronger ventilation compared to electric stovetops. Additionally, larger kitchens need more powerful range hoods to effectively clear out heat, steam, and cooking odours.
