Expert IT experience from Iran
Meet Ehsan
A new life in Queensland, Australia
A proud Persian man, Ehsan fled his homeland of Iran and sought refuge in Australia in 2013 with his young son. He joined IKEA Australia in 2021 through the Refugee Workforce Inclusion program and went on to secure a permanent role as a Technical Support Specialist.
'When I arrived in Australia as a refugee, the most challenging aspect was establishing my social standing. It had a profound impact on me as I once had my own successful business in Iran and was held in high regard as an IT professional with 18 years’ experience.'
'I applied for many jobs however I didn’t hear back from most employers. My bachelor’s degree from Iran wasn’t recognised, so I completed many other qualifications in Australia in the hope of getting other employment.'
'I feel proud to be part of a global company, using my skills and knowledge. We are all different and we are all valued equally, which is a new experience for me. I could never have imagined that I would be working with people on projects right across the globe where we are all encouraged to contribute and get involved.'
'It's important to understand that refugees are not seeking pity; rather, we seek trust and respect. When employers give us an opportunity to show our skills and experience, they can see what we are truly capable of.' Ehsan’s manager, Cameron, said Ehsan joining as a Technical Support Specialist was an exciting moment for the digital team.
'We could immediately see the value he would bring to our team. His dedication and experience is reflected in the feedback he receives from across the business, highlighting what an asset he is to IKEA.'
