How to organise your clothes

Does your clothes storage need a reset? Whether you’ve gathered a few too many jumpers or just moved house, a little clutter can slow your day. Here are simple, space-smart ideas to organise your wardrobe and make finding favourites easy again.

1. Be prepared for a big sort-out!

Start by sorting what you have and what you actually wear. Group clothes into keep, not now, and let go. Store off-season pieces in boxes, donate what you don’t use, and make everyday favourites easy to reach. A seasonal switch is a great moment to refresh.

2. Decide what’s going to be folded

Fold clothes based on fabric and type. Knitwear, tees, jeans and heavier pieces are best folded to keep their shape. Store them in piles or upright in boxes for easy visibility. Upright folding also saves space and stops everything shifting into chaos.

3. Get your hangers ready

Hang blouses, skirts, jackets and delicate fabrics to keep them crease-free. Choose a rail that fits your space and avoid overcrowding. Add BUMERANG shoulder shapers to help clothes keep their shape. Sort by colour or use to create a calm, easy-to-use rail.

4. Maximise dress hanging space

Most dresses are best hung, except stretchy knitted ones. If you have space, use a full-height section; if not, hang them up top and add shelves or drawers below. For long dresses, use two hangers, one at the top and one halfway down to save space and reduce creases.

5. How to hang your trousers right

A good rule is to hang tailored or delicate trousers like linen or silk, and fold heavier ones like jeans or sweats. Hanging keeps them crease-free and ready to wear. Use BUMERANG hangers or, in a PAX wardrobe, a KOMPLEMENT pull-out trouser hanger for easy access.

6. Mix up storage boxes to maximise space

Store clothes you’re not using in boxes to keep things tidy. Mix sizes to fit every nook and cranny. SKUBB and STUK boxes are made to work with IKEA furniture, whether on top of wardrobes or under beds, making it easy to find space for everything.

7. Drawer organisation made easy

Keep drawers organised by sorting clothes by type. Use lower drawers for sweaters and seasonal items, and top drawers for everyday essentials. Add SKUBB boxes to manage small pieces like socks and accessories, just lift a box out to find what you need.

8. Put your storage on display

Don’t hide your favourite things away! Hooks on the wall are a great way to put things you love on show – and keep them neatly stored at the same time. High shelves add to the look by creating space to store objects you might not use very often but don’t want to forget about.

9. Meet your emergency helper

Too tired to sort laundry at the end of the day? Keep an “emergency box” handy. Tuck an empty KNAGGLIG box under a bench, scoop clothes in, and sort them later. You can even paint it to match your room. Just remember to clear it before the next clean pile arrives...
