Malm ottoman reviewHeatherThis is my second purchase of the Malm range. I have had this suite in my spare room for a few years and when I decided I needed a more comfortable bed for myself, Malm was an easy choice. I had a queen bed with slats, however the Malm Ottoman slats are slightly curved I believe giving more support and comfort if you have a sore back. I also have two tall boys and two side cupboards, all in Malm in both bedrooms. It all works beautifully for me

At first I wasn’t keen on the half length slats, I was used to the full length ones. But I’m totally converted now. The advantage of the half length slats is that you don’t feel your partner’s movement through the night. It’s like 2 separate beds joined in the middle. Our mattress is a bonnell spring, & I felt every bump through the night on our old ensemble bed base. It was like sleeping on a trampoline. Not so with this one. My husband & I have been enjoying quality sleep on this bed. We love it. And the storage is awesome. As to assembly/installation, bear in mind you are building a bed so it will take time. But the instructions are brilliant. Just make sure you look at them properly & carefully. Great value for money. We’ve been sleeping on this for about 4 months now. My husband is a big guy. And so far it’s still standing. Since our mattress was not from ikea I was careful to ensure it would fit. Thankfully it does, though a little snug. But that’s not an issue.

Useful storage, 2.5 yrs laterJillianI bought this bed in Queen size 2.5 years ago as I needed extra storage in my new place.
I'm 55, and I was able to easily put this bed together by myself, needing only an extra pair of hands on a couple of things for safety.
I agree with other reviews that the strap used for releasing the pin lock to lift the bed would be better as a loop. Some strength is required to release that lock on occasion. A little WD40 from time to time helps that.
If there was one improvement I would make, it would be to put some little wheels on the bottom so if you wanted to move the bed around in the room it would be easier. Of course if you DO want to move this bed, it requires taking out all the stuff from under it, removing the mattress to make it as light as possible and even then it's a chore. I think if I had to move rooms, you'd have to disassemble.
Overall I am happy with this bed 2.5 years after purchase.

Extra storage that won't take up extra space
MALM ottoman bed lets you turn the space you already use for sleeping into a smart place for storing. The gas piston and spring system make it easy and safe to open and close the bed without putting strain on your back. And that means you don't have to be super strong to get some super storage.
Material
What is constructed board?
We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
