Sarah started off the project by studying how people with physical limitations move, and what their needs are. “It often feels good to be able to hold on to something with your hand. That’s why we developed the wall-mounted towel rail and shower shelf. But the step stools and the shower chair are stable and grip-friendly supports, too.” The shower chair can also add a bit of everyday luxury: imagine sitting comfortably and steadily and feeling the warm water pouring over your body.

BrilliantElizabeth AndersThis step stool is perfect. Due to chronic pain and short stature it’s really hard for me to reach stuff from high shelves, and regular steps aren’t stable enough any more. Getting out a short ladder feels overkill, but this high handled step is absolutely perfect for accessing my shoes on high shelves in my robe. And bonus unexpected extra… it’s perfect for my elderly schnauzer to use to get up on the bed…
It was really easy to put together and feels exceptionally stable. I liked that I could choose which side the handle was on. I expect to get another one to keep in the kitchen and to double as schnauzer access onto the couch.

The products were created to take up little space and have a minimalistic expression that is rooted in our Scandinavian design tradition. “They should blend in regardless of your style and shouldn’t be something you need to put away or hide.” Sarah hopes that the series will make a difference in the everyday life of many people. “This was one of my most challenging design projects because it was about meeting needs that were new to me. But this also made it one of my most enlightening projects. I wish BÄSINGEN will be something you can live with for a long time. Maybe you will use the products a bit less during certain periods in life, but they are always close at hand, ready to provide support.”
