NOW SERVING: NEW IKEA PLANT-BASED HOT DOGS SIZZLE ACROSS AUSTRALIA

Aussies now can taste the brand new IKEA plant-based hot dog.
15 May 2024: For over four decades, IKEA hot dogs have been a much-loved essential part of a trip to an IKEA store. In a more sustainable twist, IKEA Australia welcomes the long-awaited plant-based version, available nationwide for just $2.
To welcome the arrival of the new plant-based hotdog, an IKEA Plant Dog Truck will tour various Sydney locations to distribute free Plant Dogs from 28 May. IKEA Family Members can enjoy a complimentary plant-based hot dog or serving of plant-based meatballs at IKEA Tempe and Marsden Park stores, along with popular spots Bondi Beach and Paramatta.
“With our new plant-based version of the famous IKEA hot dog, we’ve created a delicious alternative while continuing our commitment to reduce our climate footprint," said Tim Prevade, IKEA Australia Food Manager.
“We’re helping to introduce more plant-based eating to Australians by making these healthy and sustainable products accessible and affordable, inspiring our customers to make a choice that is better for the planet.
“We’ve spent a lot of time in development to perfect not only the Plant Dog taste, but the texture so it gives the classic ‘snap’ when you bite into it, just like a traditional hot dog.
"We're excited for our Australian customers to get a first taste of the new IKEA Plant Dog, with our bright yellow food truck hitting the streets of Sydney this May” he continued.
The new Plant Dog is made from rice protein and enhanced with carrot, onion, and apple, and offers a smoky, satisfying taste. This launch is part of ] the broader commitment from IKEA to make 50% of its restaurant meals plant-based by 2025, aiming to offer healthier, affordable, and sustainable options.
Customers must show their IKEA Family membership when they arrive at the Plant Dog Truck to receive a free plant dog or serving of plant balls. Customers can sign up to IKEA Family for free via the IKEA website either before or at the event and receive a $10 welcome voucher.
Visitors to the IKEA Plant Dog Truck will also have the chance to win a $200 IKEA voucher by providing feedback on the new offering.
The rollout of the plant-based hot dog from IKEA underscores its ongoing efforts to innovate within its food offerings and make sustainable and healthy options more accessible, appealing and affordable. The plant-based hot dog is available to purchase at the IKEA Bistro in all ten stores across Australia.
