Purpose-built warehouse to be the hub for IKEA store and online operations

IKEA has made another significant step towards its journey to enter the New Zealand market. An agreement to develop and lease has been executed with Auckland Airport for a 20,000 square meter warehouse that will be vital to IKEA operations.

Located at The Landing Business Park, Mangere, approximately 15 km from the site of IKEA New Zealand’s first store at Sylvia Park, Auckland, this purpose-built warehouse will be integral in the day-to-day running of both the IKEA store and IKEA online shopping offering.

The warehouse, big enough to house over 403,000 BILLY bookcases, is expected to be operational in early 2025, ready to support IKEA opening to New Zealand customers in late 2025.

Fabian Winterbine, Market Expansion Manager, IKEA Australia and New Zealand, said, “Construction has begun on our store at Sylvia Park, and it’s fantastic to now progress further in bringing the IKEA range to New Zealand by securing a purpose-built warehouse. This warehouse will support both the IKEA store and e-commerce, ensuring IKEA products are in strong supply, available and accessible for the many New Zealanders.

“Already home to some of the world’s largest logistics companies, and with the infrastructure and facilities to meet our needs, The Landing Business Park is the perfect location for our first ever IKEA warehouse in New Zealand.”

Daniel Byrne, Head of Property Development, Auckland Airport, said, “We’re excited to have been selected as IKEA’s development partner and to be playing a part in their long-awaited entry to the New Zealand Market. As a leading global brand, IKEA will be a great addition to The Landing Business Park, further enhancing the strength of our industrial and logistics portfolio. We look forward to welcoming them once the facility is complete.”

With 19,600sqm of warehouse space plus 500sqm office space, the building is targeting 5 Green Star rating under the New Zealand Green Building Council Design and As-built Rating scheme.
