Limited time offer comes as the cost of living continues to rise for Australians

16 August 2023: As the cost of living continues to rise, IKEA Australia is helping its loyalty members save on their next IKEA purchase by providing an extra 50% in value through its Buy-back service.

From 18 August, IKEA Family members can trade in their pre-loved IKEA furniture to receive a refund card with an additional 50% in value – helping them to replace the old with the new.

The limited-time Buy-back offer is part of the IKEA commitment to providing stylish, functional and affordable home furnishings for its customers. Earlier this year, IKEA dropped prices on over 700 of its most popular items to ensure year-round value for customers.

Christopher Nilsson, Service Experiences Leader for IKEA Australia says: “We know that Aussies are continuing to feel the pinch due to the rising cost of living. With households impacted nationwide, we want to ensure our customers are still able to make the most of their home through the year-round affordable products IKEA provides as well as limited time offers like 50% additional value through Buy-back.

“Through the Buy-back service, customers can not only make a sustainable choice by giving their pre-loved IKEA item a second life, they will also get an IKEA refund card with a dollar value so they can shop with us straight away.

“We love helping our customers upgrade their furniture at a fraction of the price.”

The IKEA Buy-back service generated more than 28,000 quotes through the estimator tool in the 2023 financial year. The two most popular products returned through the Buy-back service include the NORDMYRA chair and MALM chest of three drawers. The top five most common categories of pre-loved furniture Aussies are bringing back to IKEA for a second life are: dining, storage items, living room seating, workspaces and bedroom furniture.

To determine an item’s Buy-back value, customers can use the online estimator tool, before taking their assembled IKEA furniture with the estimate to their preferred IKEA store. An IKEA co-worker will assess the furniture in person and give the final agreed value on an IKEA refund card. Returned pre-loved furniture is resold at a great price through the As-is department across all IKEA stores or online.

The IKEA Buy-back offer is available to IKEA Family members when attaining a Buy-back service quote between 18 - 29 August 2023 and when returning the item between 18 August – 25 September 2023.
