Life in light: The living room

When it comes to lighting, it can either work for you or against you. Take movie nights, for example. Constantly squinting through a glare doesn’t exactly make for a relaxing experience. It’s all about knowing how to use it to make your life easier, more relaxing and more enjoyable. Here’s how we do it.

A living room filled with lots of natural sunlight.

1. Go easy on your eyes. The light of a TV in a dark room means you end up straining them and, well, why deal with that discomfort? An LED light strip behind your TV creates a more subtle contrast and a warm ambiance.

2. Nothing ruins a film like a glare on your tv screen. What’s the point if you can’t even see what’s happening? Blinds will banish the glare without totally darkening your room, so you can still enjoy the ambiance of natural light. And remember, avoid placing the TV on the wall directly across from the window.

3. It’s always good to have lighting options. A double layer of curtains helps you better control the light in your home. When you want to fill your room with sunlight, but block the brightest rays, consider a sheer curtain. Looking to go dark? Thicker curtains will do the trick.
