Home visit: ideas to lift everyday table settings
Make everyday mealtimes special with inspiration from Melia and Henrik’s home. ‘We’re from Sweden but we live in London, so we like bringing a sense of back home to our table,’ says Melia. Try these easy dining ideas, plus a simple wall-display, to set the scene.

A rustic lunch with friends
Create a picnic-style set-up indoors by serving a board of simple salads, cheeses and bread. Mismatched plates and help-yourself cutlery keep the mood casual, while fresh flowers bring the outdoors in. ‘I like to go out foraging,’ says Melia. ‘It’s nice to bring back things I’ve found on my walks and use them to decorate the table.’
An at-home brunch for two
Start the weekend with a fun treat by serving a light meal on small chopping boards instead of plates. ‘It’s a nice twist on what you’d normally expect and it’s easy to do,’ says Melia. Linen napkins, cork placemats and cutlery with wooden handles add a sense of natural simplicity and wellbeing. Serve with plenty of freshly brewed coffee.
Set the scene with a wall display
A bare wall by your dining table is the perfect backdrop for creating a special atmosphere for meals and gatherings, and means you can keep your settings simple. To add an instant seasonal feel, put up two hooks or nails, loop a piece of string between them and hang anything from fresh flowers to cuttings, and even bunting. ‘It’s an easy idea that really complements the table settings,’ says Melia.
