A gardener’s indoor oasis
If you’re an avid gardener and lover of all things botanical, it’s time to bring it indoors. Go big and go green by dedicating an entire space to your passion for plants, complete with a gardening station, lots of potted plants, and a reading area to brush up on your knowledge.

The most important factor is to choose a room with lots of natural sunlight. Then start setting up a vertical planting station in a corner (vertical means you save more space); we chose a metal shelving unit that’s easy to wipe down, and has a few shelves to keep your gardening necessities (like pots, soil, and plant food). The floor’s bound to get a bit messy, too, so keep the area free of rugs, and keep a dustpan close for quick cleanups.
Next, pick your plants. Try a mix of edible herbs, succulents, and cacti, as they’re all relatively easy to care for; not to mention the herbs will give you a source of home-grown goodness for your meals. Start your seedlings off in a small greenhouse by your planting station, and when they begin to sprout and grow, let them soak up the sunlight in the window. Place bigger plants low down on the floor, and smaller plants on pedestals, stools, and on top of the bookcase. This will create a full and lively atmosphere, like a little jungle of your own. Just remember to make sure every pot has a saucer and to place all heavy floor plants on stands with wheels (they’ll keep your surfaces clean and scratch-free).
Once you’ve got your garden set up, it’s time to take it all in. A comfy chair to lounge in, a bench to kick your feet up and rest your cup of coffee on, a bookcase to hold your little library of gardening resources. There’s no better way to enjoy going green.
