Ratings and reviews

So finicky to assembleAnonymous reviewerIf there is a trick to get the last side of the cube to go on correctly, it is not shared in the instructions. 1
Great productMikeLove this unit. Perfect size5

Never AgainJodyI bought two of the cubes. One was amazing, fit together perfectly took me less than 10 mins including looking at instructions and organizing the pieces. The second one is a whole other story, after an HOUR of adjusting the pieces and reading other reviews and Google search finally figured out it was the back piece that was throwing it all off and had to cut it down on all four sides. It finally came together. Yah it's together but will never buy the eket series again.1

Good quality, but terrible assembly..ChrisI don't regret buying these, but I regret the overconfidence I had that I would have no problems putting these together. lol! Truth be told, I find most people struggle with assembly of IKEA products that are easy to put together, so I thought this would be the case here. I bought 3. First one went together perfectly, somehow. I repeated the exact same process for the next two, and both were exactly as others said.. that back board made it a real impossibility to assemble them properly. It would cause the sides to push out, when you put the last panel in, no matter what I would do. In the end, I ended up shaving the back board down a fair bit and with a bit of forcing everything together, it assembled. This should have all been significantly easier to do, however. Also, I ordered these expecting the wall mount kit included, as I saw in a picture. But I've now discovered that there is a separate order number for that kit. 3/5 stars for the aggravating assembly.3
The door...Anonymous reviewerThese are great little storage cubes. I've found them easy to assemble, easy to mount, and they look beautiful. The doors just kill me though. Some are better than others, but the plastic tabs move when I open or close the door - maybe they are manufactured too loose, I don't know, and there's nothing to you can do to get them perfectly square. It seems like a lottery.3
Don't bother, poor manufacturingAnonymous reviewerI thought all the negative reviews were just one offs, or people with little patience. Where to begin open the boxes in the store and check all the panels before leaving I guarantee some of them will be damaged. I bought 3, one the glued on dark gray skin was bubbling on 2 of the panels. The second one, the holes used for joining the panels were crushed and could not be assembled. The third had deep gouges on the inside of one of the panels. I feel stupid not having opened each box before leaving as I live over 250 KM from the nearest IKEA. I'm going to contact customer service to see if anything can be done for me or not. I purchase the double eket with shelf and that one was fine. As for the people having a hard time with the doors, they are quite easy to adjust, simply rotate the plastic part that they are seated until the door is level.1
MarilynEasy and fast to put together !4
Constantly tests your luckAnonymousWe bought 10 EKET pieces to assemble a wall, 4 of which were these cubes with doors. They are easy to assemble, but the doors are awful because they do not align straight or centered inside the square, always slightly crooked. The second one we built was so bad, the parts holding the door in place were loose and would flip out when the door is open, we had to exchange it. The third one was also so bad we also needed to exchange that. So we did an exchange for 2 others, and AGAIN one of them was so bad, we had to go back to IKEA to do another exchange. By then, we were so tired of going to IKEA for so many exchanges that we decided to build it at IKEA in the customer service area...and thank goodness we did, because again, the door had a problem. We exchanged yet again, and built the final one on the spot and decided it was tolerable for $30...but remember, all the lost time building defected products, going back to the store, and gas. The worst part about all of this is that while it's easy to build, you have to wait until the last step to install the door to the cube, and so you have to go through 10-15 minutes of assembly (by then we were so good at building these so it wasn't long) only to potentially realize that it's a defected product. Very frustrating. Yes it's inexpensive but you should never have to feel like you are tolerating a product if you are a customer. So we have a wall full of these EKET cabinets, but some of them have doors that look more crooked than others. Not a pretty look.2
Cute but nearly impossible to assembleAnonymousI was pumped when I got 2 of these. I love IKEA products and actually enjoy putting them together. This product is nearly impossible to put together properly. Even on YouTube people couldn't put them together properly. I will be returning them.2
Assembly process made me feel compelled to reviewAnonymous reviewerI've had mixed experiences assembling Ikea products, and have to say this cabinet was much less work than I had anticipated. Not only that, it felt more durable than some of the other not-too-expensive IKEA pieces I've owned throughout the years. I agree with the other reviewer that the walls are stiff and can be difficult to push together just using your hands. However, I used a hammer to gently nudge the pieces together which was effective and non-damaging - they were most certainly not too fragile for the use of a hammer. Further more, the box comes with a piece of paper you can tape to the wall to make wall mounting incredibly easy. The visual is nice too, before mounting, especially so if you are adding more than one cabinet to the wall. Super happy with this purchase and the quick assembly process from start to finish.5
Classic, smooth surface but pain to assembleAnonymous reviewerI really love the colors and the clean lines of this model. Once assembled it looks absolutely stunning no matter where I place it. However it took forever to assemble because the connecting parts require a lot of force to click together while being too fragile to risk using a hammer. Buy only if you are really into this kind of look and expect to be frustrated.2

EKET Cabinet with door, white, 13 3/4x13 3/4x13 3/4 "

From grandfather's fishing boxes to playful storage

When product developer Petra Kammari Enarsson was a young student and often moved, she used to furnish her apartments with old fishing boxes given to her by her grandfather who lived on the west coast of Sweden. Years later, when Petra was developing the new EKET storage series, those boxes came to mind. How could she make the series as flexible as the boxes?

New technologies, new hobbies, a new family member ... both small and large changes affect life and people's needs at home, especially when it comes to all the things that we need space for. Petra Kammari Enarsson is a product developer at IKEA and often visits the homes of customers to experience their everyday living and how good storage can make life at home a little easier. She remembers a family in Copenhagen which expanded every other weekend with the daughter from a previous relationship. ”She didn't have her own room, but the family had a solution where she had a loft bed in the living room and her private things were in a chest on the floor”. Petra thinks it's a good example of how more and more people are living in small spaces, and that a large part of everyday living takes places in the living room where we want things to be both practical and stylish.

Flexible furniture for new needs

Another obvious trend around the world is that many people move more often - just as Petra did when she was young. ”The problem is that a lot of storage furniture is so inflexible – upon moving or new needs arising, they can't be adapted. This means storage isn't optimal and it's difficult to keep track of all your things”. These insights inspired Petra and her colleagues to start looking at a more flexible and personal storage solution – something that can easily be updated so that people don't have to buy new furniture as soon as something in life changes. Petra then started to think about those fishing boxes she had when she was young and which were so easy to stack and move as needed. What if you could make a piece of furniture which consists of various smart modules that can be easily moved around, removed and added to?

Building with blocks

Petra and her team started by ordering cardboard boxes in various sizes. They took the boxes to different room environments where they moved them around like building blocks – stacking and combining them in various ways. The team also researched detailed facts about storage: on average, how many magazines do we have at home? What’s the ideal height for people to put down their mobile phones? ”Many of us put keys, telephones or bags in a specific place when we come home. We usually do it automatically, without thinking about it”, says Petra. The height that seems to suit most people is 31½", so a shelf at that height was a given in the mix of shelves, drawers and cabinets in different colors and styles that eventually became the EKET storage series. ”I'm so pleased that we chose to prioritize playfulness and freedom of choice with all the colors and sizes of EKET”, says Petra, who's looking forward to visiting more homes. ”I think that the customers will find lots of exciting combinations that we haven't even thought of!”.

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
