Wire coil of Coffee PressSamuelI bought the coffee French press sometime back and discontinued using it as I switched to 3 in 1 coffee in single pack. Recently I decided to change to loose leaf tea and took the IKEA coffee French press to filter the tea leaves. It worked for a couple of weeks but the wire coil became untwined and have no way to put it back. I took it to IKEA to check whether they have a replacement or exchange. As I do not have the receipt and it is over 90 days they cannot exchange or return it to buy a new one. I decided to get a similar one. Lo and behold the press worked for 2 weeks and the same problem with the wire coil happened. As this is within the 90 days I can return it but what happens if the wire coil becomes untwined again ? Can IKEA customer service take back the 2 press for exchange or refund?2
Disappointed with the design changeDianaMy IKEA french press that I got 6 years ago recently broke, so I went to get a new one. To my surprise they changed some of the press internals to plastic (used to be metal). Very disappointed, will be returning. 1
Plunger base bad qualityLilian This little French press is fantastic!! One cup size and you’re done with coffee, is small fits anywhere, is cute and convenient. The plastic base of the plunger has 3 round pieces , the 3rd plastic piece has a very little small hole to screw/hold the metal stick, unfortunately even pushing down the plunger super carefully as you would with any other French press , unscrews itself every time when trying to remove it from the jar after serving the coffee, happens all time hot or cold it happens. If it had another round of screwing to hold the stick from the base strong enough hat would do it .. Dear Ikea please fix this problem, is just a little more rounds to screw well. I will return it ..is not working for me the way it is, I waste time trying to retrieve the mesh and the spring back, is annoying when something is really good but is cheap made, I’d love to see it improved. Is a good product 2
Reduced qualityShanaazThis is my 3rd or 4th time buying this press. The glass beaker for the first 2 broke. By the 3rd one, they'd changed the material of the stainless steel bottom plate to plastic and the threading became worn down to the point where all pieces would come apart when pressing down. I bought another one, and the same thing is happening. It's extremely frustrating and I'll be looking for another brand entirely now. The stainless components of the older model worked just fine, so hoping they'll bring it back. 3
Love it!MarianaI actually use it for dehydrated teas, works great. Just a perfect size for 2 cups. Great purchase5
Ikea French Press still the bestBarbIkea has carried this item for years, and it is attractive, functional, inexpensive, and well made, easy to clean. A comparable model at another big box store was made of glass and plastic, more expensive, and the filter was harder to clean.5
Perfect for TeaSharleneI make my tea in it. Cleans well5
Coffee ☕AngeliqueMakes the perfect cup of joe!5
No longer fully stainless componentsElizabethJust bought a new one to replace one with broken glass. I believe the price has gone up since I last purchased and the bottom piece which screws on to hold the screen on is now made of plastic. Will be returning. Very disappointed. I cannot see this change stated anywhere in the product listing.1
cheap and getting cheaperLynneWe buy two of these french press coffee makers at a time because the glass beaker is so fragile. What I don't appreciate with the latest batch is that the cross plate is now plastic and molded to the screen so you can't take it apart for cleaning.3
Glass keep breaking Anonymous reviewerNo matter how carefully I am, the French press glass tip keeps breaking, this was like my 3 time happening, I do not recommend1
The new version is made of plastic Anna CatharinaI had this French press in the past and it was all metal with only the external parts made of plastic. Now they added plastic parts in the interior as well. I’m returning mine.1
The best affordable coffee maker!!JanetMy favourite coffee pot!5
Now made with plastics!ArunI am replacing an UPPHETTA french press that I previously owned and it was perfect. I use a french press because I don't want to be exposed to plastics especially not those in contact with heat. The previous model used to be made with all stainless steel components. I bought its replacement or what I thought was it's identical replacement only to find out that the critical components are made out of black plastics. This one costs more than my previous model but disappointingly contains black plastics on unknown origin. Not worth returning but it is going in the trash. Save your money and buy a Bodum which is thankfully made with stainless steel components and you won't be soaking your coffee in toxic plastics.1
Not the bestJoëlleGood quality for the price, but the handle tends to loosen, there isn’t enough space for a comfortable grip, and it gets hot enough that I burn my hand each time I use it.3
Works wellAngelikaRecent purchase, appears to be a good one thus far!5
Avoid: plastic cross-plateRanenAs others mentioned, the cross-plate (one of the parts that goes into the near-boiling water) is made of plastic. Not only is this a health and taste concern, but the assembly won't last. Other french-presses that have metal screw into plastic (plastic that is repeatedly thermally stressed) are known to crack at that exact stress point quite soon. 1
Cost effective coffee makerSimoneInexpensive French Press that is a good size for 2 cups. Does a good job!5
Plastic has gone up, quality has gone downSaloniI purchased this yesterday after my previous UPPHETTA French press of two years broke. Was disappointed to see that not only has the price gone up, but the quality has gone down. The old UPPHETTA's filter was made entirely of metal, but this one contains a combination of metal and plastic! Plastic should not be in direct touch with hot coffee, especially with concerns of microplastics and their impact on our health. The increased use of cheap plastic shows that IKEA's claims of sustainability are simply greenwashing - this is just another big company cutting corners on health, quality and sustainability.3
Perfect for a Cup of CoffeeAnonymous reviewerI had a previous version in turquoise but unfortunately it broke after years of use. Didn't hesitate to buy another one just like it, although the turquoise was no longer an option. 5

A better everyday one cup at a time

Have you had coffee or tea today? Statistically, you most likely have. In fact, these hot brews are the most consumed beverages in the world next after water. They’re a part of life that can give a silver lining to any moment. That’s why we decided to update our selection of products to make that perfect cup – from the tea infuser and the kettle to the milk frother.

Malin Ljungström, who was involved in developing the range, shares her insights. “To many, the smell of coffee and tea means well-being and a homey feeling. Since we want to improve people’s everyday, we’re offering products that make it possible for more to experience more feelgood moments at home.”

Developing things that make a difference

Malin and her colleagues dug deep into coffee and tea cultures to find out what tools people feel they can’t live without. They talked to specialists and investigated living, eating and drinking habits. “We wanted to develop items that make a difference, so we’ve focused on a few, but carefully selected products,” she states. The team cooperated with IKEA Test Lab in Älmhult, Sweden. It’s an IKEA version of a James Bond lab where prototypes are inspected and evaluated. “A couple of the things we checked were that the thermoses can keep fluids really warm for a long time. And that the glass mugs and glass pots are durable and comfortable, even though they look and feel light and airy,” says Malin.

For all tastes and different wallets

No matter how you enjoy your cup, you’ll find the things that put an extra flavor to your drink in the range. Another good thing is that there’s something for all wallets. “It’s one of our contributions to a better life at home. A way to improve people’s everyday one cup at a time,” concludes Malin.
