  • To season a carbon steel pot/pan, rub all surfaces with oil. Then heat the pot/pan in the oven or on the cooktop to max. 300°F for a minimum of one hour. Leave it to cool and wipe off excess oil.

If corrosion or food stains arise, or if food burns and sticks, the pot/pan can be cleaned with steel wool or an abrasive sponge and then re-seasoned.

Use a cooktop with the same or a smaller diameter to save energy.

Strong and stylishPaulThis is going to last forever…. Strong, heavy, well built.5
Love the pan!ElenaNice looking, very good for cooking!5
great alternative to cast ironDonnaI love that this is lighter than cast iron. I am a carbon steel convert. You do need to season to make it non-stick but it will last a lifetime unlike ceramic pans.5
Quality!CarlaLove this! Now I want a bigger one! Very nice quality!5
Was greatRachelI loved this pan but it warped :( I have an electric stove so it just spins/slides everywhere and is like a wobbly table at a restaurant when I try to cook in it.3
Coating coming offMicheleI received this a few days ago. The packaging - plastic bag was stuck to the bottom of the pan. I pulled it off and it left a pattern - thought it was sticky but after washing found that the plastic removed the coating (found that strange) but I still washed it. After washing with dawn, the same type of spots appeared in the inside. Looking at it I could see that the coating seems to be coming off. I was going to season it to see if it would change but I think I'm going to cut the experience short and return the pan - as I see others had issues with the coating as well.2
Black coating came off after 3rd useLucyI don’t understand why even though I followed the directions to the “t” and seasoned the pan as instructed, after my third use all the black coating on the bottom of the pan came off. Is this dangerous if I eat some by accident? Is the pan still able to be used? Thank you for your advice.1
What a great pan!DaveI love nothing more than a big black 9” pan and this one doesn’t disappoint. Well-made with a stiff handle, I’m able to cook everything to nice brown color just how I like it. This isn’t a nonstick pan, you have to season and oil it, it’s not that difficult.5
Now I love this pan!DianeInitially I gave this a bad review and I want to correct it. I didn't realize that it needed to be "seasoned" several times. I was past the return window so I stubbornly re-seasoned until it is now a pan that I love! I can even do over easy eggs in it.. I highly recommend seasoning until it is glazed - Do not expect it to be uniform in color.4
perfect little egg panGeoffWanted a small pan for eggs, and this works well.5
Great valueJameGreat pan at a good price5
Great Pan!SueNot too heavy, but holds heat well. Great size and easy to clean.5
Love the fact that it can last long time.EnriqueIt is just a plain carbon steel. No chemical product on top to make it non stick. It is very deep. There is no lid, but I can find a used one cheap. Also, this item is made in Brasil, not in China like most of IKEA’s cookware.5
Good productValentinaGood product5

Material

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.
