Too floppyKatrina K.I didn’t realize these would be so soft and floppy. They don’t work for my needs.1
Love it!DEBRALove it!5
Great - FlexibleEMMETTThese storage baskets lack the structure of the other options offered for the Kallax unit. I use them in a cool, dark pantry room. They are perfect for storing winter vegetables like onions, potatoes, turnips.4
Best bins for toys.JeanThese are the best bins for holding toys because the edges are soft. Hard sided bins can flip and hurt little ones.5
Super versatile!SuzieSuper versatile!5
Love this for a flower pot!TanyaSo well made!5
Stylish basketLouisaAll natural basket I stuffed them with towels for my bathroom look great5
it works well and fitsJohannait works well and fits into the shelf nicely how ever it doesn't stand so if you want it as a basket by itself you need something stable to go inside5
Love the texture, look, but too floppyAndreaIf you put structured pieces inside of it to support the shape, it works. On its own it is too floppy.3
Should have seen in person before buyingSusanThe pic makes it look like it stands up, but it's pretty floppy. The look probably works for some, but didn't for me. That said, the material is terrific! If it had some kind of frame to make it stand up it would be lovely.3
Doesn't Hold ShapeChristina C.I wanted to like these, but they are just too floppy. They need some sort of wire or something to hold their shape, they just flop closed otherwise.3
Kids toys looks good, notVerified BuyerKids toys looks good, not sure how durable it will last.5
Like the look!Maureen E.I have six and use them to store different groups of things I use, eg medical equipment, craft supplies, office supplies, etc.5
Fab BasketPatriciaLove these and use for all kinds of things. They fit perfectly in the bathroom cubbies & great for containing towels, lotions, and potions. Also great for plants. A plastic tray and decent sized nursery container slips neatly inside--for plants that need to overwinter inside. Great basket & good price.5
Great little storage binsibillaI added high shelves yo my closet & wanted attractive, medium sized baskets for the top shelves. These work great! They hold their shape well and are tightly woven. They look more expensive than they were and I'm nice and organized.5
BasketHelenLove these baskets because I can fold down the rim to make them any size I need.5
Lovely idea - but too floppy and heavyamyLove it’s style but it won’t function for too long- it’s made of rope that’s heavy with not enough support from the seams you can’t fold over the cuff neatly due to its construction- ours is full of knit caps and the sides flop over - I’m going to have to reinforce with wire on the sides- - Considerably heavier than most baskets3
Difficult to get to standDanielDifficult to get to stand up straight like shown in the stock photo online.4
such a subtle statement pieceAnnettesuch a subtle statement piece used it to put a potted plant in - total upgrade5
Great design!GailI originally wanted one of the more rigid baskets but bought this one when the first choice was out of stock. The Tjillevips actually turned out to be a better choice as it works perfectly for the intended use.5

A basket of opportunities

Our TJILLEVIPS baskets are made of jute, a versatile plant fiber that can be shaped into beautiful and functional objects for the home. The Indian jute industry is traditionally very male-dominated, but one of our suppliers suggested hiring women to make the TJILLEVIPS baskets. An initiative that contributes to more equality and better opportunities for women in the Indian countryside.

“I was contacted by one of our long-time suppliers in the Kerala region who suggested that they should focus on hiring mainly women to do our TJILLEVIPS baskets”, tells Nidhi Bhayana, who works with textiles for IKEA in India. “We thought it was a good idea! With this initiative, we can, together with the supplier, contribute to equality and create more opportunities for women in the area.”

An idea with a ripple effect

The supplier began organizing the work immediately. They started by hiring women who live close to the factory and come from the lowest income groups. The supplier also educates the women in health and safety issues, informs about fair wages and legal rights, and coaches them to operate a bank account and an ATM card. “The wages go directly to the women’s personal accounts. It’s a way to empower them and make sure that the money goes to the person that actually does the job,” explains Nidhi.

Better everyday life

The TJILLEVIPS baskets are sewn together by hand, a work that requires both precision and patience. “Visiting the factory floor and meeting these proud and skilled women is one of the best parts of my job. With a steady income, they get better opportunities to provide for themselves and their families, “TJILLEVIPS is an excellent example of how a simple idea and a small basket can lead to new possibilities and a great change.“

What is jute?

Jute is a very hardwearing fiber that is found in the stem of the jute plant. It’s an easy-to-grow plant that requires very little fertilizer, pesticides or water and is ready to harvest after only 120 days. The jute fiber is often used for ropes and sacks but is also known for its silky-smooth luster and can be spun into finer threads which are then woven. In our range we often use woven jute for items like curtains, rugs and furniture.
