Not easy to construct ShawnaTook me 3.5 hours to put this together, only to realize that it’s JUST the trundle—the main bed is not included. The pictures are a little deceiving—there should be a clear note. It’s been an adventure….2

Great buyAnonymousBought this for my toddler twins to transition them from a crib. It’s still low to the ground for safety. One gets the top and the other is in the pull out bed. Eventually the bed will go to my son so he can have room for his cousin when he stays over. I would have given all 5 stars but the support brackets are missing. Still trying to get those replaced but I was able to finish putting it together without it and will be easy to install once I get it.4
Perfect for younger kidsAnonymousWe bought the lower trundle to use as a not-quite-Montessori bed option for our toddler. It's very sturdy and was (at the time) the only trundle from Ikea that you can use without the upper bed. The hemnes line looks beautiful but it's flimsy and too tall for little legs. We did replace the braided slats with plywood since we sometimes lay down with him and wanted a very strong base. Only downside, on carpet the rollers struggle, but that's expected.5
AnonymousI order a bed for my son for Chris mast i was so excited it got delivery .but then I realized that is not complete missing some box we had to schedule to delivery again next month , and still missing pieces of it until now his bed still not complete, very disappointed. I check on the website and the products is said included all pieces but his bed only came with slated base and draw not headboard or other part like a picture1

This product was easy to assemble. My daughter loves the bed for sleepovers and loves the extra storage. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is because the slats that hold the bed move a bit.

Story

It takes a lot of work to chill out

Pre-teen kids are probably the busiest people we know. It might not always look like it on the outside, but on the inside everything runs at hyper speed. With all the energy needed for growing, it makes sense that once they're home, a place to relax and recover is pretty important. That’s where the SLÄKT range comes in. To get it right, we had to go back to the start.

We ordered a study that focused on children aged 8-12 from all around the world. From that we tried to make something that fitted in both with what kids want, and what the parents think the kids need as well.

A worldwide study on what kids want

Child and adolescent psychotherapist Dr Barbie Clarke and her research agency Family Kids & Youth carried out the global study. "Early adolescence is an important phase because it's a slow move towards autonomy and independence,” says Barbie. “There's this huge growth happening that requires a lot of energy. It's not a joke that they really can't wake up in the morning!" One of the big findings was that kids wanted a place to relax and retreat, while still being close to their parents (who still are their biggest influence), even if hanging out with friends is a growing focus. "The bedroom also becomes a place for entertaining with friends. The phrase 'chilling out' was something that we heard around the world. 'Oh, I just want to chill out' is a key desire".

Furniture made to be spontaneous

Building on the research, the work began. We designed SLÄKT to be super modular and adaptable, as well as easy to move around if say a bunch of friends come over. After we tested everything for safety we asked children for their feedback. Then we changed certain designs to be even easier to use and relax with. The kids favorite: a fold out mattress that can be stored under the bed and brought out whenever it’s chill out time. Kids seem to just sort of fall on it. No communication, just 'aaah!'.

What is fibreboard?

Fiberboard is a stable and durable material made of leftover wood from the wood industry. A durable outer layer of paint or laminate is added to the board. The difference between various types of fiberboards, such as HDF and MDF, is mainly the thickness, yet also how impact-resistant they are. This determines if we will use them for bed frames, sofa frames, kitchen fronts, wardrobe doors, or something completely different.
