Boards are flimsy, weird materialsJimBoth the chalk and whiteboard are made of non-standard, flimsy materials. It’s more like a coated particle board than a real chalk and whiteboard. Neither side is magnetic like my kid’s other easel. The rest of the frame is decent quality. The paper roll mount is a nice touch.
looks nice, but not as functional as expectedKarenThis easel looks great, and it's easy to set up. But the small red bars on the sides that keep it from folding are *easily* removed by my 2 year old, which allows the whole thing to fold, making it unstable & unsafe. Also, the chalkboard surface is cheap, and it doesn't grip the chalk very well. The whiteboard surface is also odd, none of my whiteboard erasers work on it. I have to use a wet paper towel to clean off the dry erase markers. I love the roll of paper, but it's not enough to make me want to keep this easel. For older kids who don't want to remove the red bars, and who don't care about the quality of the chalkboard and whiteboard surfaces, I guess it would be okay. Sometimes you get a lot of value for IKEA's affordable prices, but not in this case.

I picked it up on sale expecting it to be decent considering the price, but now that I know how solid and well made it is I would have gladly paid much more for it. You gotta get this for your kiddos or even yourself. No complaints whatsoever and exactly as pictured/advertised.

Great easel, but will fold faster than a lawn chair in a tornadoVasudhaThe easel looks adorable and the two-sided design (whiteboard and chalkboard) is genuinely useful when it is upright. Unfortunately, it is about as sturdy as a folding napkin. My toddler can collapse the entire A-frame with one enthusiastic poke. The sides are held together by a plastic cover, but it does not actually keep the frame in place. It is still usable for quick doodles, but if you have a toddler with even moderate strength or opinions, be prepared to stand guard.
