The most complicated furniture ever assembledPolyThis IKEA bed is hands-down one of the most unnecessarily complicated furniture pieces ever created. Whoever designed this needs to rethink what real customers experience. Was this even tested by real people, or just approved by an IKEA employee who never had to assemble it alone after a long shift? If you believe building furniture should be logical, ergonomic, and stress-free, you’ll likely agree this bed fails on every point. Save yourself the headache and skip this product entirely!
The worst part? You’re forced to screw bolts directly from underneath the frame—a position that’s awkward, exhausting, and almost impossible without extra help. Even if you’re strong, moving and flipping this heavy bed frame is a struggle, making the whole process feel unfairly difficult for a single person. It’s supposed to be a simple bed, but you’re left fighting gravity and poorly pre-drilled holes that never seem to line up properly.1
Great stableness!MateuszWe brought this bed at least 9 year ago and it still holds to this day! Very cool that you can pull out the bed and make it a queen. Before we moved, I slept on this bed and then I gave it to our daughter. Very nice bed.4
Poor Quality Materials makes unusable, waste of money.AlexThe exterior of the bed is lovely. It looks great, it seems to be made of good materials. However the interior, the actual working parts are dismal. The metal frame is very flimsy, so are the fasteners for connecting the wooden slats to the frame. While building the piece, we had to buy hardware to add just to make the frame square. The little fasteners for connecting the slats to the frame break if you look at them harshly. Once assembled, and pulled out the drawer sticks, making it difficult to push it back in again. And the first time a person laid down on the bed, the slats broke, the fasteners broke, the flimsy metal rails bent. We are going to have to rebuild the inside of the bed in order to actually use it. I am super disappointed in this product and do not recommend it if you are ever going to actually want to use it.2
Hemnes Daybed with 3-drawers, WhiteCharlesThe daybed is definitely worth it. We have purchased one on Saturday 10/18/2025. The four boxes are heavy, but we loaded them into the back of my truck and brought them home. The assembly I tackled the next day, Sunday afternoon. I cleared the bedroom, or I should say my wife's craft room and started assembly. Take your time and follow the picture directions as I did. The two pieces slide together with the boards that look like lats from an older home. they slide into each other very nicely but, take your time and follow the directions closely and you will be very happy. As for now, I assembly the two units and put them together by sliding one under the other, very nice I will say. The daybed is large, you will need room to assemble two different large sections, and everything should work out Ok. Many hours for installation will be needed if this is your first time assembling this style daybed. I have just the three drawers to assemble and that will be completed tonight. Great Buy5
Major quality problemElvinI regret not reading the reviews before buying this bed. I chose it purely for its look and design, and while it is a nice daybed, the quality is disappointing. The very first time to pulled it out to use as a double bed, one of the center slats broke and splintered 130lbs weight. Afterward, I read through the reviews and realized this is a common problem others have experienced as well. It’s hard to believe a product with such a serious flaw can still hold a 4.5 out of 5 rating.1
Pull out drawers sucksLizdethBed it’s awesome if we need to extend it to a bigger bed. Just pulling it out is a hassle.1
Not very sturdyJaredWe wanted this for years because it looks great, but the quality is poor. We have a lot of ikea furniture and this is the only bed where slats have broken and where it doesn’t feel sturdy as you climb in (when extended). Maybe better for kids than adults. For the price, I’m disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend. 1
Great bed - nice qualityChristiI purchased this two weeks ago. I got home and read the reviews. I panicked. However, I found a Reddit thread with some tips. I have built the bed. Used wood glue for assembly. Planning to get a bunkie board for when the trundle is pulled out.
Fantastic quality. Daughter loves it. Would recommend for a tall person or an adult unless they are smaller. Perfect for a kid. 5
Horrible QualityXiuI had this exact bed years ago and the quality has gone down so much. The entire bed frame is made of MDF which is the cheapest money can buy. It's falling apart everywhere. Not to mention it was a pain to put together.1
Very poor lumber used for the slatsMatthewI was very disappointed in the quality of materials used by IKEA for the Hemnes daybed. There are knots in the wood that run through the shortest part of the slats and fully through both sides.
IKEA has made it very difficult to get assistance as well, there is no option for defective products and you have to deal with horrendous wait times if you attempt to call them.
I've purchased many products in the Hemnes line, but I would recommend avoiding this one as IKEA doesn't seem to be willing to help with their poor lumber quality.1
Weak BoardsAnonymous reviewerThe boards are very weak. You have to get on the bed very softly and in a certain way or the boards will crack. 2
Gray daybedMarieThis is the perfect bed for a guest bedroom. The quality is good & the assembly wasn’t difficult. 5
reason for my back painFernandothis bed is the reason for my back pain to this day1
HmmKarenDon’t be fooled by the nice display—this bed frame is a complete disappointment. One of the wood panels arrived already cracked, and the drawer wood is just a bunch of cheap scraps glued together. As soon as we tried screwing it in, it split apart. The assembly was an absolute nightmare. We’ve bought frames from TEMU with clearer instructions and actual bolts and nuts that hold things together properly. This one? Flimsy, frustrating, and not worth the money. The quality is nowhere near acceptable. Avoid. 1
Very practical JoseVery practical and the quality of the materials is very good. 5
Best Day Bed EverTimothyI would rate this as one of the best day beds ever. Really exceeded my expectation. 5
Confusing but Rewarding!StephanieMy partner and I were able to build this bed within 3 hours, you definitely need 2 minds. I recommend using a drill carefully as you can damage the wood, but if you do it well, it really speed ups the process a lot!5
Disappointed JillianIKEA makers of Hemnes bed changed so much back when I got it in 2016. The drawers were much larger and further back so you could put more clothes in. I feel as though now the Product is cheaply made, everything is much thinner and flimsy, and the instructions were horrible to follow! 2
Hemes bedNancyI think I will like the bed if we could finish putting it together!! There are 6 missing screws! We went to IKEA to get the missing screws and they won’t give us any. Very poor customer service! You should think twice before buying anything from IKEA. 1
