Had it for a few weeks before one of the slats brokeJessicaWe had it for a few weeks before one of the slats broke. One month later another slat broke. Now I have so much anxiety whenever we or a guest uses it. Also, it is loud and creaky when you move on the bed. For how much we spent on it, I’m very unhappy with the product. 2
Fell apart after less than 2 yearsSaraI made it per the instructions and the particle board that holds up the bed split and collapsed after a little over a year. A huge waste of money and Ikea refused to rectify this situation. 1
It's fineAaronThe bed is ok. Typically difficult to put together as a single person, I would recommend doing it with someone else. We've had the bed for about a year and it works well for our purpose. Using two mattresses is very difficult to open and close but that's probably true for all trundle beds. The only real problem is that the wood slats are very cheap. They are two smaller pieces attached together in the middle to make a single slat. They are very prone to breaking in half when the bed is fully open and if that happens they will jam up the trundle part.3
Top mattress constantly falling off the edge of the bedBaileyThis bed is okay, but there are two things I would like to share with others who are looking to buy it. If you plan to purchase two mattresses for this frame, be aware that the top mattress will constantly have to be rearranged. I'll be sleeping in the corner of the bed and I'll wake up with the top half the mattresses falling off of the bed. I hate that I always have to push the top mattress back in (multiple times a night) to get good sleep. A way to combat the two mattress option is to: buy one mattress and then buy a slim mattress topper. That way, you can fit a single fitted bed sheet around the mattress and the topper so theres no way of it slipping off (get a sheet thats bigger than a twin, maybe a full or king). I havent tried this myself, but I think it could work better if you're not planning to extend the bed to it's full size. The other thing I don't like about this bed frame is that it's a pain to put together. If you know that you move houses a lot, do not get this bed.3
Great big girl bedJerryThis is the second one of these that we’ve purchased, this one going to our second granddaughter as her first big girl bed. I was impressed with the first one after it was disassembled and reassembled after a cross country move and survived without a problem.5
Not solid woodNicolleVery disappointed in this product. Being a hemnes product I was expecting solid pine. However the majority of the bed is made out of particle board. Very flimsy and can't be moved without taking the bed apart. Bought this for my 1yo granddaughter so it should last a little while but would not trust it for an adult. I especially would not trust it with the bed extended to the king size with 1 adult let alone 2 full size adults. It takes hours to assemble and none of the parts are in corresponding boxes. Parts for step 1 are in box number 4 and so on. Takes an hour just to sort pieces and parts. You need a huge room to sort parts and build and you better build it where you want it or good luck moving it. Bottom bed front with drawers doesn't sit flush.1
Great bed, lots is storage space! practical and beautifulShirynLove the beauty and practicality of this bed. The drawers are big and the bed takes little space and looks great!5
Convert your officeMelIt's excellent. Bit confusing to assemble but the rewards out weigh the confusion.5
Love this bedMariaI love this bed. I bought this one to replace another Hemnes bed that I purchased so long ago that I don’t remember. The bed was still I good condition, I was redoing the bedroom, and was just going to refresh the paint on the current one. However I opted to purchase a new one, once I saw that it was on a one day sale. I love the look it has and the roomy drawers. I’ve never used the pullout bed option, but I glad to have it, if needed. If you’re on the fence buy it, you won’t regret it. It looks great, it last a very long time.5
Not that solidHarsheshThe extended bed not not that solid and is shaky2
Nice design for a daybed but cheap materialsJonas T.purchased recently and I surely will not give this item a good review due cheap materials and poor instruction. Ikea needs to be better with the cost of this item and provided better instructions and better materials.1
Beautiful design, great concept but execution was poor. Serious design flaws led to various structural failures.LisaBed purchased Dec 2020. In Jan 2020 had to request numerous replacement parts. Including, bent supports for the slats above the drawers, bent drawer rails, screws, the large 'wood' piece on the back of the trundle. It took months due to supply chain issues to get the parts! Once we received the parts in late 2021 we fixed the bed. Here we are in mid 2023 and I find out the bed had failed AGAIN in the same as before!! My kid held it up using books! A weakness b/n the 2 mattresses when the bed is fully extended. The screws are too short and the wood too fragile to support a normal teen girl. The bed is basically useless to us at this point. Additionally it can not be sold on the second hand market because the damage is not repairable without great expense. The bed is beautiful in the catalog and on the showroom floor. Had such high hopes for this piece of furniture. Unfortunately it failed on all counts for us. Ikea needs to seriously re-evaluate the design.1
As describedNicoleAssembly was easier than expected. Love how it looks and the size. My only complaint is how creaky it is. It will only be used from time to time for actual sleeping but interested to see if that goes away over time.4
Great "big kid bed"AmyThis product uses high quality wood slats and is sturdy for the money spent. That said, it's incredibly heavy, so make sure to assemble in the room/spot that the bed will end up in. It took a bit to assemble (the slide out slats were the trickiest part.) But overall, we are very satisfied with the final product!4
LoveRoxanneI love our new daybed. We had our son staying with us for a few days and he slept comfortably on the king sized slide out. Thanks5
ONE OF THE WORST BED THEY SELLMadelinThis bed is horrendous. It’s so uncomfortable. the years of back pain you will get after sleeping once on this bed will be longer the the years this lasted in my household. Not including that I spent $700 on this bed just to have the WORST SLEEP EVER. I rather sleep on a bed of needles. PLEASE DO NOT BUY1
GreatEvelynIt's perfect to little spaces me and my husband sleep together in that bed5
Product is very good only is not strong enough . Basically is not bad for use on basement. Price wise it’s greatly.HemantI like it it’s 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️4
Not so great afterallAmyThis bed took me a few days to assemble as there are so many parts to it. It looks great but one major issue. When the beds are pulled out side by side the first bed doesn't have enough support to hold the weight of a grown person. With the cheapest light IKEA mattress on the bed, one supporting slat broke when my daughter was getting out of the bed. Yesterday, we pulled out the bed again for a sleepover and the thin flimsy metal support beam on the first bed began to buckle with the weight of a 90lb, 11 year old girl. We had to push the drawers back in so they could provide the support the bed needed. Very disappointed and the only way to return is to take the whole darn thing apart and bring ALL the pieces back to IKEA. That's totally unrealistic. So now we have a lovely bed in my daughter's room that doesn't do what we paid for it to do and could have just bought a twin bed with drawers underneath for much less because that's what we have. We've owned the bed for 3 months.2

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is fibreboard?

Fiberboard is a stable and durable material made of leftover wood from the wood industry. A durable outer layer of paint or laminate is added to the board. The difference between various types of fiberboards, such as HDF and MDF, is mainly the thickness, yet also how impact-resistant they are. This determines if we will use them for bed frames, sofa frames, kitchen fronts, wardrobe doors, or something completely different.

Function solution

Sofa and bed in one

Living in a small space or need an extra bed sometimes? Then a daybed is a smart solution since you get two types of furniture in one - a sofa by day and bed by night. And since some of our daybeds also have drawers, you get a practical place to store anything from bed linens to clothes and toys.

Designer thoughts

Designer thoughts

"Function and flexibility are high on the agenda where space is at a premium. That's why I designed HEMNES daybed to fulfill four functions. A single bed, bed for two, sofa and storage drawers solve four of the key needs in every home. The simple lines and white finish make sure it's at home in almost any setting. I've heard people say this is an all-round item of furniture - with room for all the family in the bed for two and the cat in the pull-out drawer! That makes a designer like me feel that I've achieved my aim."
