Not a long lasting productSamirI bought almost 10 of these in October 2024. I'm writing this review in August 2025. 4 out of 10 have started showing problems. This product is not good for outside mounting. The knobs tend to lose elasticity & stay wide. This causes the blind assembly to come out of the mounting hole & fall down. The other problem is the winding of the roll. It doesn't wind properly & tends go more on one side. This loses the smoothness of rolling. The 3rd problem is the stick & the string. It has started becoming a bit stiff. The 4th problem is that the product is not sturdy. 1 blind broke.1
Always missing screwsKellyBlinds are great the product is just what I wanted. But I am so frustrated that out of the 5 i have ordered only 1 had the screws included. In addition the screws included weren’t the total number of screws needed. Definitely a let down after getting excited to set these up asap. So heads up if you purchase check that you get the screws included and/or just plan to pickup some after purchase.2

Additionally, the roll can veer into the sides if you're not careful when raising and lowering. Overall it is not a good product if you intend to use it often.2

Great but can height be adjusted? KimberlyThe width is perfect for my window, however, the height of my window is only 36 inches so if I want the shade closed, the pull mechanism comes out and down below the windowsill and sticks out. Is there any way to adjust the height of the shade so that the pull mechanism lays flat against the window? Other than that this shade has worked well for us for a few years and blocks nearly all light. I’m sleeping so much better. 4

Nice shade but hard to cut to sizeJuliePurchased this for mounting inside the frame of a window which required it to be cut to fit. The instructions are misleading on the cutting; you need to SUBTRACT 1-15/16" from the measurement of the window frame (it shows to add that amount). I verified this with a phone call to Ikea. It requires very precise cutting. Once done correctly it works well though.3
Don’t bother…ErikaLoved the look of the shades but they are impractical and impossible. First, the width measurement is for the roller, not the shade. The roller was very difficult to cut, and regardless of what was used to cut the shade, the material looks jagged. I tried a blade, scissors, it didn’t matter. Lastly, I bought the 27” shade for a 26” window while the actual shade is 25”, leaving me with a gap for light defeating the blackout feature. I am hopeful the imperfections will be less obvious behind curtains but will likely need to replace the shades. Disappointing that it wasn’t an easy install and subpar quality.1

Fridan's are greatSandyThey are customizable because nothing standard fits my 1921 house. They have been up for 5 days and it is just beginning to get hot -- no curling or rolling yet -- hope never. Where I spent my $$$ was the contractor for the customization but she was OCD and the results are awesome.5
Simple nice looking shadeAntoinetteI bought this shade to block the door to my kitchen when I fry shishito peppers. My very sensitive and loud smoke detector in the hallway would go off whenever I fried the peppers on my stove top. The shade is simple and nice looking and solves the problem. I found the installation directions confusing but there are many YouTube videos that show you just how to do it.5

Story

Why we hide the cord in FRIDANS

Children are curious and love to investigate things. These character traits also mean we have to be aware of safety when we decorate our homes. Accessible cords on traditional blinds have been known to cause accidents with children. That’s why we developed FRIDANS block-out roller blind. It has a rod that you use to adjust the blind – a safe solution for children, and functional for all ages.

In 2014, we got an invitation, along with other manufacturers of blinds, to meet with the Consumer Product Safety Commission – a governmental agency in the United States. They wanted to discuss how to prevent accidents with blinds that have accessible cords, and what possibilities there were to create something better. One of our Product Engineers, Bo Zhang, remembers it well. “We decided to immediately stop selling blinds with cords and only sell cordless ones.”

New solution but the same function

The decision meant some frustrated customers who wondered where the traditional blinds had gone. But it also meant that change was on the way. Bo and the team tried several different solutions until they came up with one that provided the same functionality as blinds with visible cords. “We realized we could keep the cord, but hide it,” he explains. The cord is inside a plastic rod that’s expandable and reinforced with strong glass fiber. When you pull it, you adjust the blind. “It’s safe, exact, and still at a low price,” says Bo proudly. The rod has not only been tested by our own lab, but also independent test labs. In addition, customers have checked the functionality. “By involving different people and organisations, we’ve made sure FRIDANS and the rod can meet the toughest demands – in every market,” says Bo. “The rod allows parents to create a safer environment for the youngest family members. When you live with children, that’s one important part of a better life at home,” he finishes.
