Tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger and more resistant to breaking than regular glass. In case it would break, it shatters into many granular pieces to reduce the risk of injury.

unsecure lockingKimWe now have two of these and love the unit overall, however it has come to our attention that the key from one will open any other which renders it useless as a secure display. Also, there is no visible way to remove the lock to upgrade it. Would love info to remove what appears to be pressed on latch. Thanks3

It houses my crystals and prized & autographed, music memorabilia perfectly. I will be using magnetic, rechargeable, LED bars inside the top of the cabinet for lighting. I love it! Assembly used minimal colorful language. Be sure you have the bottom crossbars the correct way before tightening. 5

Please make an additional shelf available for purchase. The space between the shelves allows for a third shelf easily and it is a fuss to have one custom cut.5
Glass side panel spontaneously shatteredCarlyLoved this cabinet until today when one of the sides of the cabinet just basically exploded and broke into a million pieces. Thankfully I was in the other room and no one was hurt, but I now have 1 side completely missing the glass, and hours of clean up. I hope ikea will consider maybe using different glass so others don't have the same unfortunate experience1
Been trying to get this cabinet for 4 years!RussI love the cabinet - was going to purchase it and then found it was unavailable when I went to buy it. Then with the pandemic and everything else it just was impossible to find. Now that I have it, it's great! A great display cabinet, which had just the look I was looking for. Because it's metal, it's just a tiny bit off on the doors, but I wouldn't notice unless I was really looking for it.5

Nice cabinet, BUT....Anonymous reviewerIf you are displaying anything small like models or small art, the two shelves is not enough. Luckily IKEA DOESN'T offer any accessory or replacement shelves. You would have to source custom shelves from a glass company which could get expensive. IKEA has really eliminated all options for modelers and art collectors. Will have to find other options moving forward. 2

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda, and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking.
