The Fabulous Billy ShelfAlanThis shelf is very white. It is also extremely flat. It was cut to the exact dimensions I needed to fit my Billy bookcase. It also included pins to mount the shelf. Amazing.

Not the same pegs - new ones are awfulAnonymous reviewerI'd love to know why IKEA didn't send the same metal pegs that have come with every other IKEA shelving unit I've ever purchased. The new ones will not stay in place. Thankfully I have a few left over from another project. Would not recommend these shelves unless you can find the original type of pegs elsewhere.

Shelf for BillyDonnaI recently purchased the Bill bookshelf, which is very sturdy and I love that you can add additional shelves. I really like the hidden pegs on the shelves. I use this in my craft room to hold cardstock and stamps.
Deceptive product imageFernandoI wanted to DIY a small monitor stand using this shelf as it's one of the few shelves with a small footprint big enough to fit a monitor's base on top.
The images on the site had me believing that this shelf had paper foil nearly all around. Upon arrival at the store, however, all the shelves (all colors) were paper foiled with its respective "colors" over the top and the front ONLY. So, the dark brown shelf has a light particle board texture and appearance on either side.
In retrospect, it makes sense, as these shelves would be inset on a Billy bookcase, but the image on the site depicts the same shelf with coloring on the side.
Shelves are nice but mounting hardware not so muchAngelaThese are nice shelves, but the mountain hardware is attached to bookcase in a way that makes it impossible to install in a Billy/Oxberg bookcase that is already completely assembled. I finished putting my Billy bookcase together with the added Oxberg doors only to find out that the doors cannot already be in place if you want to install these shelves. And if you decide at a later time that you need the shelves moved, you will have to remove the doors in order to do so. Glass shelf = A. Mounting Hardware: F
Dark brown wood color looks cheapA.C.I have a few of the older Billy bookcases in the Black-Brown color which I always found very elegant looking, especially with the glass doors. We decided an extra shelf would help so I went online to order one, only to find no more Black-Brown! So, because we really need the extra shelf, I ordered a Dark Brown (the new color), hoping for the best. Ooo but no, not only is it a terrible match, but this fake wood brown veneer looks AWFUL. So cheap. It looks like a Walmart shelf. Feeling depressed now! I've loved my Billy bookcases for years & now I'll never be able to add to them... --> To IKEA: I was even planning to get the extender shelves on top since we have very high ceilings! Please reconsider and bring back the Black-Brown color. It was the best thing y'all had going. What a shame to discontinue it - and leave sooooo many customers hanging. :(

What is particleboard?
Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.
