How to save energy at home
Appliances and lighting are two of the areas in your home where you can have a direct impact on energy consumption – and your household bills. But there are other ways that you can be smart about how you use energy.
A research by DECO PROteste made for IKEA in December 2023 shows that a Portuguese household of three* can save €148 per year on energy by using more efficient equipment, as well as appropriate textiles for better insulation and comfort.
*Household made up of three people, two adults and one child or young person. Both adults work outside the home and the child or young person goes to school or university.
Price of electricity: €0.1927/kWh

Savings of €62 per year by using LED bulbs
LED bulbs are more efficient than incandescent light bulbs because they give off the same amount of light but use less power.
Replacing six 40W incandescent light bulbs with six 3.4W SOLHETTA LED bulbs gives savings of €62 per year on your electricity bill.
The light bulbs are used for four hours a day, 365 days a year.According to data from INE (Instituto Nacional de Estatística), on average, Portuguese households still use six incandescent light bulbs.
In this case, each light bulb allows for savings of €10 per year.

With a drying rack instead of the tumble dryer you can reduce wear and tear, as well as your energy use.
Savings of €66 per year with the use of an induction hob
Induction hobs are more efficient than ceramic hobs, which means that cooking times are shorter and you use less energy.
By choosing a MATMÄSSIG induction hob instead of a ceramic hob, and the efficiency of each one, you can save €66 per year on your electricity bill.
Assuming the hobs are used to boil water three times a week and to cook a full meal seven times a week.
Savings of €10 per year by using a forced air oven
A forced air oven means you can cook different meals at the same time without mixing flavours. This way, you can save time and energy when preparing the meals for the week.
Cooking two meals at the same time once a week in the ANRÄTTA oven instead of at different times allows you to save €10 per year on your electricity bill.
Assuming a basic scenario of using the oven two times a week, with pre-heating.
Savings of €10 per year by using textiles
By using appropriate textiles to minimise the need for heating, such as carpets or curtains, you can reduce the length of time you use heating appliances by around 10%.
Assuming that the heating systems are used every day for three months a year, with typical consumption of three hours a day.
