How can I get started with the METOD kitchen planner?

In the IKEA METOD kitchen planning tool, you can start designing completely from scratch or choose from existing design tips to help you get started.

Before you begin
  • Before you start designing the kitchen of your dreams, we recommend log in to your IKEA Family profile. This allows you to save your design to your profile and easily find it later in case you need to take a break from designing.
  • Also be sure to prepare your kitchen measurements before you start planning, to ensure that the kitchen design fits your space.
Navigate to the METOD kitchen planner
  • First, navigate to the METOD Kitchen Planner, and then click on 'Start drawing'. The first time, you will be asked to set the location of the oven, type of hood, refrigerator/freezer preference and type of layout. Of course, you can modify these options later if necessary, or choose the 'Draw from scratch' option.
  • Next, choose a similar room shape for the kitchen. After that, you can start adding your bedroom measurements and add the first set of products to your kitchen.
  • If you need extra inspiration, you can choose from existing design suggestions to help you get started by navigating to 'Pick a favourite'.
How to solve issues when getting started with the METOD kitchen planner
  • If you can't access the METOD kitchen planner, try launching the tool in a different web browser or in a private (incognito) window. You can also try disabling or clearing the cache and cookies in your web browser before reloading the page. If you are unsure how to do this for your specific browser, use a search engine like Google to find instructions.
  • Our planner is designed to work well on most computers and laptops. On smartphones or other mobile devices, you may receive a notification that the planner can only be used on larger screens. If you receive this notification on a large-screen device, try adjusting the screen resolution via your operating system settings. Choose the highest available resolution. We also suggest trying to zoom out the tab in your browser (e.g. setting it to 90%).
  • If you are still unable to access the tool, there may be a temporary bug with the tool, and we recommend trying again later.
