How can I improve my IKEA Kreativ scan?

The quick tips in this article will help you capture the best possible scan of your room.

1. Where to stand and how to prepare your room
  • Stand back to capture as much of the room as possible in the horizontal photo, positioning yourself with your back against a corner or wall facing the area you want to design.
  • Make sure the floor is visible in the photo so the app can use it as a reference. A wider perspective helps improve scan quality.
2. Capture your room in good lighting
  • Ensure your room is well lit before taking the photo. Open blinds or curtains and turn on lights if needed.
Bright lighting will help produce clearer and higher-quality images.
3. Taking a wide-angle picture
  • Frame the wide-angle photo toward the center of the space you want to design.
  • If you are using the 5-Point Panoramic method, follow the app’s instructions and pivot your phone toward the five targets shown on screen. Wait for the checkmark before moving to the next target.
  • Hold your phone with both hands, pivot using your hands and forearms, and keep your elbows close to your body. Avoid moving the phone side to side or twisting your entire body.
4. Review and accept the preview
  • Check the preview displayed on your screen.
  • Make sure the entire design area is visible and that the image looks bright and clear.
  • If everything looks good, tap “Yes” to continue.
5. Align the wide-angle photo with the scan
  • After capturing the wide-angle photo, the app will ask you to align the image shown on the left side of your screen with the one on the right.
  • Perfect alignment is not required—just align them roughly and tap Done.
6. Measuring the room
  • Stay in place and move your phone slowly in a wide figure-8 motion, starting from the center of the area you want to design.
  • Make sure the camera captures the floors, walls, and ceiling, covering as much of the room as possible.
7. Perform a second scan (if required) (devices with LiDAR capabilities will automatically skip this step)
  • If prompted, take a large step to your left or right and tap Done.
  • You will see a split screen to help align pictures 1 and 2—tap Done once they are aligned.
  • Then repeat the figure-8 scanning motion.
Once the scan is complete, you’ll receive an email that allows you to start designing your room. You can access it in the mobile app by going to Profile → Settings → IKEA Kreative → Saved Rooms, or on our website through your dashboard: click here
