However, why is the BIG ceiling fitting in black plastic and the actual electric cable also in black when most homes have white or light coloured ceilings. I had three fitted and managed to replace the fitting with white ones. They would have looked terrible in black. This plastic is now useless and wasted.4

Horrible to install but visually greatAnonymous reviewerBy far the worst ikea product I have ever had to install/construction. Absolute nightmare. Now that I have installed it it looks great but I have no confidence in the electrical connections as it required a lot of force to get the wires in place so the base would lie flat against ceiling. There is no way to check the connections aren't damaged without removing from ceiling, but then the same problem would occur when reattaching. There must be a simpler way for it all to fit together. Terrible design and cables are way too long. Now have to weigh up whether to pay an electrician to come and double check the fitting. Very disappointed in the poor technical design but love the overall look of the light.
I agree with a different commenter - absolutely need to just sell as a shade, not the whole fitting!! Then it would be 5/5 from me.3

Alright lampAnonymous reviewerBought this for my daughter's room and it took me a fair amount of time to get up. We had the right attachments but it was very fiddly and quite heavy so I struggled to hang it. Didn't help that the dog was trying to get at my ankles though haha.5
Cheap, nasty fixingsAnonymous reviewerI have 2 of these, when up and working they look amazing.
The electrical fixings however are truly nasty, far from being quick, simplified connections to make fixing easy they don't provide a positive connection which could easily cause problems.
I took wire cutters to mine and used boring secure connectors instead.
Ikea for the sake of a pennies you really need to change this aspect as it makes what would be a simple job a right pain!

No hook to fit the lampAnonymous reviewerI recently bought this product and another light and neither come with the ability to fit to the ceiling. You have to buy additional products which are not made obvious at the time of buying and staff who serve you do not mention it. Personally this will be the last light fitting I buy from IKEA. If you don't make it match with normal ceiling roses then you need to supply the hook so people can actually fit the light to their ceilings or as a minimum make people aware of the unusual circumstances that IKEA think is acceptable so they can pay the extra for the hook. What a joke of a system and a money grabbing exercise from IKEA1
