Good to know

For use on whiteboards; the lifespan of the pen will decrease if used on paper.

The whiteboard pen will leave permanent marks on most surfaces and materials, however, immediately washing the area with a stain remover may give good results.

Store horizontally. If the colour becomes less intense, store the pen vertically with the tip pointed down for 12 hours and the colour will revive.

The product should not be used for face or body painting.

Reviews

Terrible pens!Anonymous reviewerI didn't think to check the reviews of a basic thing like whiteboard pens, but wish I had!! INSIDE the pack it tells you they need to be wiped off with a WET sponge/cloth. Why not tell us on the outside so we can know not to buy!! They don't write as well as my normal whiteboard pens, almost like they are normal felt tips. The yellow is almost invisible so a waste of time. Guess my daughter will be using them as felt tips, what a waste of money! 1
Hard to rub outAnonymous reviewerBought these with the easel, whiteboard pens with rubber and chalks. The whiteboard pens with rubber work as they should, but these pens DO NOT rub out with the rubber, had to use a baby wipe to remove from easel. Why are these pens different Ikea? They changed what should have been an easy, independent wipe clean by my grandchild into a chore! Very disappointing. Please make them dry wipe able!!2
Great colours Anonymous reviewerGreat colours grandkids love them5
cant be erased with the eraser Anonymous reviewer pen mark cannot be erased on the easel whiteboard with their eraser, the eraser created a real mess on the whiteboard, i need to use alcohol to wipe clean it. PLEASE IMPROVE!!!!1
Don’t wipe off very wellAnonymous reviewerDon’t wipe off the whiteboard without using a damp cloth2
Don’t work Anonymous reviewerBought from ikea in Sheffield, got home and don’t work I live over a hour away so not worth taking them back but what a waste of money and a disappointment as these were for my daughters white board on their easel and when we got home they didn’t work 1
dried outAnonymous reviewercame home, opened the pack and kiddies were very disappointed as they could not use any of the pens, they were totally dried out 1
Great pensAnonymous reviewerMy children have loved creating on their whiteboard with these pens. 5
Coloured board pensAnonymous reviewerThese pens are great for using on a white board, however the lighter colours don’t show up so well. 5
Work well but...Anonymous reviewerThey are good colours to complement the pack of 4 that come with the eraser, but the eraser doesn't work with these pens. Leave a right mess.3
CrapAnonymous reviewerThese pens didn’t work waste of money looks like the ink ran out before we even used it. Yellow is non existent my daughter was excited for the pink and purple disappointed that they didn’t work well. We bought the black and blue set with the rubber I hope it works better. We threw these away so disappointing we bought two packs as well. 1
Whiteboard markersAnonymous reviewerBeautiful colours, but the only one that works well is the purple! The rest seem too dry! 1
Perfect Anonymous reviewerNot used yet but looks good 5
VibrantAnonymous reviewerThe markers are really pigmented and very vibrant. Must buy. 5
Bright colours!Anonymous reviewerThe colours are so bright, I do really like them but with the yellow, its hard to see whats written clearly because of the brightness. Wipe off well leaving no stain behind. Easy to write with.4
Mis-sold as whiteboard markers....Anonymous reviewer...by which I mean it is generally presumed that whiteboard markers are easy-wipe. That is definitely NOT the case with these markers. Unlike the regular colour set (Blue, Green, Red and Black) which any reasonable person would expect to behave as whiteboard markers SHOULD do, these alternative colour markers leave a mark alright. Unfortunately, not one which can be removed with the "wiper" supplied with the regular set. Considering they are labelled in the same manner, it's a reasonable expectation that they should perform the same way. Why has IKEA's product review team not rectified, or at least acknowledged this yet? I have opened this account just to be able to write this review. Nice colours, shame they don't wipe (easily).1
Do not wipe offAnonymous reviewerBought these as my daughter preferred the colours. The pack with the board rubber wipe off no problem but I had to wipe these off with a baby wipe. Disappointing as they looked like the same product in alternative colours1
Nice colours, but not dry wipe. Anonymous reviewerNice bright colours, but they are not dry wipe. Had to use alcohol wipe to remove. 1
Don't wash offAnonymous reviewerThese pens look like they would be lovely colours, but most of them do not come off the whiteboard with the usual rubber. Some will come off when cleaned off with water - I fear the purple will be stuck for good!1
Not suitable for childrenAnonymous reviewerI bought these with the Mala whiteboard. They were in the children’s dept and the info on the shelf implied they were washable. But when I unwrapped them at home there was a warning inside saying they leave a permanent stain on most surfaces. And that a stain remover ‘May’ work (or may not?) Sadly I bought the other colour pack too - so feel I have wasted money if I can’t safely give them to my grandchildren to use. It’s misleading to show a child using them on the pack2

MÅLA Whiteboard pen, mixed colours

For all creative little explorers

Drawings all over the kitchen table and coloured felt pens without caps. Does it sound familiar? This is definitely part of living with children, and actually something to be happy about. Painting, drawing, and crafting are in fact not just fun, but important work, and a way for your child to develop. When we created the MÅLA series, we wanted to take children’s creation very seriously and listened to the true experts: the children themselves.

We always start with the child’s perspective to understand what they really need. In this project, we found facts and inspiration in pedagogy focusing on creativity. “We realised that creativity isn’t just any play for children, they’re little researchers who use creation to understand the world around them,” says Ina Tidbeck Sjöblom who was part of creating the MÅLA series.

Made for busy artists

The team interviewed groups of children who got to try out prototypes and provide their points of view. What were their favourite colours? What did they think of the paper? “The children had very strong and sensible opinions. We also realised how they use drawing and painting gear. For example, if you’re four years old and in the middle of making a drawing, you don’t always think of putting the cap back on the felt pen. So, these pens will last up to three days without caps.” To ensure high quality at the right price, the development work was allowed to take extra time. “What children do and how they do it is super important. That’s why we considered all their feedback and made sure the products met their needs.”

Easy to get started

The MÅLA series has been around for a long time, but it keeps growing and evolving as we see new needs and get new ideas. All parts should be easy to grab and use whenever inspiration strikes. “The child shouldn’t need a parent nearby to start drawing or painting. Being able to do things on your own is an important part of development. You grow with the task.”
