Handy.Anonymous reviewerI use this for myself and not a child. I have all my craft tapes, ie, double-sided sticky tapes, and even my small washi tapes fit on the pole. The top is where I keep my glue and scissors, and other tools, so everything that I use is all in the same place. . I did buy the paper roll at the same time just in case the tapes didn't fit. That is good paper and its handy to have when I need bigger sheets of paper.5
Excellent for adults and children! Anonymous reviewerBought this last week and I was very pleased with how quickly I could construct it and put it to use! The only guidance I needed was to place the roll feeding under itself so that the paper edges didn't get scraped by the cutter. Now me and the little one can draw and paint simultaneously on the same piece of paper and it's so awesome! 5
Not Just for KidsAnonymous reviewerSo I study family history, and the Mala Rolls are the ideal paper for drawing timelines and trees on. I recently got the holder too, it went together well (just the pictures were a little confusing, but easily removed the end piece to turn the plastic holder over) Screwed together well and fits on my Kallax 2x2 Cube unit for ease of storage, and the top shelf holds the spare paper roll well too. Anyone doing Genealogy / Family History should get this.5
Worst IKEA product!Anonymous reviewerI bought this product recently and it’s one of the worst products I’ve bought from IKEA ever. The holes for the screws are so small that it takes ages for the screws to go inside. We had to eventually drill our own holes for the screws provided. Never expected this from IKEA.1
Terrible screwsAnonymous reviewerThe hole being small right wood and weak screws means that when screwing it in the screws are rounding off and we can no longer screw then in any further. So it has become useless to us now. Waste of money 1
Kids love it Anonymous reviewerWe absolutely love it. The kids haven’t stopped using it since we bought it. Easy to fix and sturdy too5
Great idea Anonymous reviewerThis works well in theory and has great storage space for crayons / pens. However the recommended paper is too wide and rips when pulled out to draw.5
OkayishAnonymous reviewerNot too bad but the paper roll gets stuck on one of the sides and rips the paper off when pulled 3
Hack from childrens items to kitchen Anonymous reviewerI bought a store used item and changed the use from children's paper dispenser to kitchen foil/greaseproof paper dispenser 4
Paper cutter to smallAnonymous reviewerThe paper cutter is to small for the roll so when you pull a bit of paper out it catches and rips at the edges, overall a nice looking product and not the end of the world I just took the cutter out 3
Excellent for keeping drawing paperAnonymous reviewerExcellent for keeping drawing paper and crayons together.5
MÅLA paper too small for the holderAnonymous reviewerI brought this holder along with the MÅLA paper roll. Easy enough to put together and aesthetically not offensive. Annoyingly the roll is too big to fit through the red paper cutter, which means that the edges of the paper get caught and ripped up. Very infuriating. £12 for the holder and £6 for the paper roll, I've essentially spent £18 to be hideously disappointed and frustrated.1
Didn't purchaseAnonymous reviewerDidn't purchase this item1
It’s fantastic - worth the wait!Anonymous reviewerSo glad these are back in stock. I’ve been wanting one for my daughters matching table for a year. It’s fabulous, so handy and the paper tears off just perfectly! Tempted to use it with my wrapping paper rolls at Christmas. Another fabulous ikea purchase, they really do think of everything for kids and adults.5
Kids love it ,Anonymous reviewerKids love it ,5
Happy CustomerAnonymous reviewerVery happy with this product. It has everything you need in this kind of product. And the shelf is very used to store crayons or other bits and pieces.5

For all creative little explorers

Drawings all over the kitchen table and coloured felt pens without caps. Does it sound familiar? This is definitely part of living with children, and actually something to be happy about. Painting, drawing, and crafting are in fact not just fun, but important work, and a way for your child to develop. When we created the MÅLA series, we wanted to take children’s creation very seriously and listened to the true experts: the children themselves.

We always start with the child’s perspective to understand what they really need. In this project, we found facts and inspiration in pedagogy focusing on creativity. “We realised that creativity isn’t just any play for children, they’re little researchers who use creation to understand the world around them,” says Ina Tidbeck Sjöblom who was part of creating the MÅLA series.

Made for busy artists

The team interviewed groups of children who got to try out prototypes and provide their points of view. What were their favourite colours? What did they think of the paper? “The children had very strong and sensible opinions. We also realised how they use drawing and painting gear. For example, if you’re four years old and in the middle of making a drawing, you don’t always think of putting the cap back on the felt pen. So, these pens will last up to three days without caps.” To ensure high quality at the right price, the development work was allowed to take extra time. “What children do and how they do it is super important. That’s why we considered all their feedback and made sure the products met their needs.”

Easy to get started

The MÅLA series has been around for a long time, but it keeps growing and evolving as we see new needs and get new ideas. All parts should be easy to grab and use whenever inspiration strikes. “The child shouldn’t need a parent nearby to start drawing or painting. Being able to do things on your own is an important part of development. You grow with the task.”
