Down and feathers are natural materials that sometimes have a slight smell. The smell is harmless and fades over time. Airing or washing , and drying it thoroughly in a dryer, helps the smell fade faster.

Tumble dry after washing until the filling is completely dry.

This product is suitable for use in smaller hotels, inns and B&Bs as the design and material are optimised for frequent use and washing.

New duvetAnonymous reviewerOnce the duvet was unpacked and aired, it fluffed up well. There is an initial smell as noted by other reviews which dissipated once aired. I would recommend this duvet, allowing 2 days for airing (mine was indoors over the stair bannister rails as too wet outside). Good weight and warmth for spring and autumn. The winter duvet (also IKEA) was feeling too warm so purchased this 7.5 tog one. Hoping this will be suitable for summer but not there yet. I ordered online and duvet arrived quickly. Material

How to care for your down/feather duvet

With a little care, you can prolong the life of your down/feather duvet and keep it fresh. The filling has a natural smell which can be reduced by airing or washing. Wash the duvet separately with a mild detergent (1/3 of the normal amount) on delicate cycle at 60°C. Avoid bleach/fabric softeners. Tumble dry immediately on low heat. A dryer ball or a high-quality tennis ball in the dryer will ensure more efficient drying. Air your duvet regularly, if possible, in direct sunlight.
