Reviews

Good idea, faulty execution. Anonymous reviewerSlightly too small for A4 folder or file holder which is oversight. 2
Good qualityAnonymous reviewerEasy assembly, robust, good colour5
Breaks easily Anonymous reviewerHad a nightmare putting this together. Broke very easy and is now in the bin. 1 bit of plastic broke and the other side pushed through the wood. Would not recommend.1
Superb productAnonymous reviewerVery easy to make up. Just follow instructions to the letter. They look great. Used them in my dressing room. I bought an extra pack and cut the four pieces down to make diving shelves.5
Nice when builtAnonymous reviewerThis piece is lovely and sturdy when built. It’s meant to be easy to put together as it doesn’t require tools but it’s not that easy. The pieces are hard to clip together and require a lot of strength. One piece on my unit isn’t completely flush as I hadn’t got the strength to get it fully in place. I have had other pieces the same and managed to get all pieces fully in place. It is a nice sturdy piece if you can get it all together4
MultipurposeAnonymous reviewerI had to rerun this because it wouldn’t fit where I wanted it to go. I was going to use it as a bedside table, unfortunately there wasn’t enough space for it. However these wall boxes have been an ikea staple for years and are very popular5
Hard floor makes assembly a breezeAnonymous reviewerA number of reviews say assembly was difficult, but for me putting a sheet of paper on my hardfloor and then sliding the sides together against the floor was not very difficult at all. Perhaps this could be suggested in the instructions so people don't struggle so much. I assembled a single white cube to rest on the floor, and after positioning it have found that for the price, the quality is fine and it does what I wanted it to. I can't speak to its longevity, but it gives a clean, simple aesthetic that I find pleasing to look at.4
Well made and just what I wantedAnonymous reviewerThese are easy to put together if you are careful. The side marked 1 must be opposite the gap when you add the back as it has a longer back slot. I watched good youtube video before I bought, given some comments here. They are easy to make - just take care to follow the instructions.5
Fabulous size & quality Anonymous reviewerGreat reduced width wall cabinet. Good quality & easy to fit with the wall bracket. All fixings & instructions included..& in addition, a template to assist with installation. 5
Look Great but THE worst thing to put togetherAnonymous reviewerYou need the strength of an Ox and the patience of a saint. They are almost unbearable to put together which is frustrating when the overall finish is really lovely. I brought 2 of 3 I needed and considering just sticking with 2 as not sure I can cope with building another 3
Eket cubesAnonymous reviewerVery good cubes, and so easy to assemble, the fit is perfect and they look good, I've got 9 of them. Don't listen to the few negative reviews, they obviously didn't follow the instructions. The piece with the number 1 on the back is there for a reason, being the 1st piece to use, and not the last5
Hassles Anonymous reviewerShockingly difficult to put together, back board few mms to large making it very stressful and time consuming, nice shelf but not worth the assembly 2
Look great but not quite as robust as expected Anonymous reviewerUnits look great. We've filled an unused breakfast bar with 6 of them to create more storage. Because of this we needed to screw them togther, side to side and top to bottom. Didn't use the special bar because they would be supported from the floor, not going on the wall. Managed ok but it might be worth knowing that these aren't made of anything solid like MDF. They are constructed with a lightweight core. Much better for the environment in lots of ways (and less load on a wall) but we were a bit nervous about drilling and screwing into them. So they were a little fragile until slotted in place. Planning to put doors on and hoping the material will support hinges. 4
Dreadful to put together.Anonymous reviewerI have put a lot of ikea furniture together and these are by far the worst. Also no mention of the rails needs for wall assembly when selecting them off the shelf so had to pay for delivery of these. Will be glad when this is over! 1
Not easy to assemble Anonymous reviewerHaving assembled an entire IKEA kitchen and various other items from here, these are by far the hardest work to put together. The first step of the instructions say to find the piece with the number 1 on it. Out of the four cubes we bought only one had a piece with a number 1 sticker on it. Most of the parts do not slide together easily at all and more often than not do not end up quite flush with each other so the finish is not a great quality.2
Poor qualityAnonymous reviewerthe components didn’t marry together 1
Very neatAnonymous reviewerMost impressive range, great quality and does the job. Don't understand the reviews that complain about assembly. Worked perfectly for me, take your time, follow instructions and with the right tools it's a breeze.5
SmartAnonymous reviewerVery very pleased with these. Very easy to assemble and look amazing on my wall. 5
Great quality easy to assembleAnonymous reviewerPerfect on its own in a small space. Have bought another to stack. 5
Eket box unitAnonymous reviewerUseful slim size, used under desk for storage. Good selection on different colours. 5

From grandfather's fishing boxes to playful storage

When product developer Petra Kammari Enarsson was a young student and often moved, she used to furnish her apartments with old fishing boxes given to her by her grandfather who lived on the west coast of Sweden. Years later, when Petra was developing the new EKET storage series, those boxes came to mind. How could she make the series as flexible as the boxes?

New technologies, new hobbies, a new family member ... both small and large changes affect life and people's needs at home. Not least when it comes to all the things that we need space for. Petra Kammari Enarsson is a product developer at IKEA and often visits the homes of customers to experience their everyday living and how good storage can make life at home a little easier. She remembers a family in Copenhagen which expanded every other weekend with the daughter from a previous relationship. ”She didn't have her own room, but the family had a solution where she had a loft bed in the living room and her private things were in a chest on the floor”. Petra thinks it's a good example of how more and more people are living in small spaces, and that a large part of everyday living takes places in the living room where we want things to be both practical and stylish.

Flexible furniture for new needs

Another obvious trend around the world is that many people move more often - just as Petra did when she was young. ”The problem is that a lot of storage furniture is so inflexible – upon moving or new needs arising, they can't be adapted. This means storage isn't optimal and it's difficult to keep track of all your things”. These insights inspired Petra and her colleagues to start looking at a more flexible and personal storage solution – something that can easily be updated so that people don't have to buy new furniture as soon as something in life changes. Petra then started to think about those fishing boxes she had when she was young and which were so easy to stack and move as needed. What if you could make a piece of furniture which consists of various smart modules that can be easily moved around, removed and added to?

Building with blocks

Petra and her team started by ordering cardboard boxes in various sizes. They took the boxes to different room environments where they moved them around like building blocks – stacking and combining them in various ways. The team also researched detailed facts about storage: on average, how many magazines do we have at home? What’s the ideal height for people to put down their mobile phones? ”Many of us put keys, telephones or bags in a specific place when we come home. We usually do it automatically, without thinking about it”, says Petra. The height that seems to suit most people is 80 cm, so a shelf at that height was a given in the mix of shelves, drawers and cabinets in different colours and styles that eventually became the EKET storage series. ”I'm so pleased that we chose to prioritise playfulness and freedom of choice with all the colours and sizes of EKET”, says Petra, who's looking forward to visiting more homes. ”I think that the customers will find lots of exciting combinations that we haven't even thought of!”.

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
