Reviews

Ideal storageAnonymous reviewerIdeal storage for small spaces5
Nice but very easily scratchedAnonymous reviewerThese look nice when built, easy but fiddly build - read the manual carefully. When building place on a soft clean surface as the grey marks and scratches super easily. Be mindful when moving it into place also due to this. I’m not confident for their longevity but we’ll see. 3
Simple - if you follow the instructions!Anonymous reviewerAll the reviews saying the last piece is impossible to fit in - I noticed this at first, then realised that if you dont start with the side stamped with a number one then this is indeed the case. This piece looks identical to the matching bit on the other side - but has a deeper groove cut for the backboard - this isnt at all obvious. Basically - pay attention to the instructions!5
Follow the plan. Easy!Anonymous reviewerI bought 9. I made the mistake of deviating from instructions at the start and found myself in a frustrating pickle! Have patience. Stick to guidance! Straightforward to put together. Love how quickly these transformed my space. Buildable storage solution. Looks great5
Ikea Eket Anonymous reviewerI love these cabinets, I have several of them, you can arrange them in many ways 🤎5
Great looking little storage cubeAnonymous reviewerGorgeous colour, great little storage cube but I found it difficult to put together. 4
Good boxAnonymous reviewerVery good box5
GreatAnonymous reviewerAmazing and perfect, however the building process may be a bit challenging4
Critical Design Flaws - Should have bought a Kallax.Anonymous reviewerBought these as an upgrade from another 2x2 Kallax shelf, at around triple the price (for 4 cubes) we expected better quality. The units have thicker walls, back boards, and a better selection of colours, as well as more versatility... However, when constructing these the tool-less build was a nightmare once it came to attaching the top piece in what I assume is design negligence or poor quality control, the back board is too large so it stops the top piece for coming into place. We cut down the back board and hammered the units together to brute force the bad tolerances. This has left the units damaged and slightly uneven. In the end they look nice but they took over an hour to construct. 3 out of the 4 units didn't go together without modification or harsh persuasion. The sloppiness of Eket is a complacent abuse of Ikea's very positive reputation for effective budget furniture. I will never make the mistake of shopping their with blind confidence again.2
Brilliant itemAnonymous reviewerBought this item to finish my living room as I have the full set and a three piece unit also5
Great cubeAnonymous reviewerEasy enough to put together and looks great - love the different colours. Colour accurate to the website. Worth the money5
Not the same quality ofAnonymous reviewerNot the same quality of the Kallax cube but needed smaller for my project good value for money and easy assemble won’t hold as much weight as I thought.4
Lovely but hard workAnonymous reviewerI have a couple of these in various arrangements, but never before have I had to jump and stamp on an item to get the sides to slot together. How I've not damaged myself or one of the units I've no idea. The units are great storage though especially if you are using them with box inserts. A suggestion for the development team is to make a shelf for these units. I've put ornaments on some of mine and they look lost within the internal height of the unit. A shelf (possibly in glass) would mean I could double stack.4
Serious production and manufacturing defectsAnonymous reviewerGenerally speaking, IKEA products may have some acceptable deviations in dimensions. However, the deviation of the product I received was so large that it was unimaginable that this could be a sellable item. The last board cannot be installed no matter what, and it cannot be locked with the other three boards. I thought using a hammer could solve the problem, but even after the surface was damaged, it still couldn't be locked, which means I can't return it now. I have purchased a lot of IKEA products, and the quality defect of this particular item is truly shocking.1
OK once builtAnonymous reviewerThe video shows the woman just clicking the sides into place. 3 sides, fine, the last side with the back in place required a lump hammer.3
Worst product ever!Anonymous reviewerI didn't read the reviews because this is an IKEA product and I had never ever before been disappointed with IKEA. However, this is a very bad product. The video is not even close to the reality, it does not show that the product needs a hammer. It takes a lot of strength and it cannot be done without a hammer. Unfortunately, I used a hammer and not a rubber mallet so one side got chipped. Whose fault is it really though? I managed to assemble two of them in more than an hour each, for the third one I cannot align the fourth side for the life of me. I haven't mounted them on the wall yet, I'm afraid this will be further disappointment. I can't believe this is an IKEA product. 1
Great if you don’t want the back panel inAnonymous reviewerThere’s no reasonable way of getting the back panel in as if it’s in place it’s impossible to click the last side in place. Otherwise great!3
Worst Product ever!!!Anonymous reviewerIf I had the option to give 0 stars I would!! This is the worst product ever with no ease to assemble at all! Pushing the pieces together does absolutely nothing so had to used a hammer to try and slot in. Furthermore, trying to slot the pieces is so difficult that I ended up cutting myself...honestly not happy at all!1
Avoid..Buy Kallax insteadAnonymous reviewerHonestly one of the worst products I have ever purchased. Despite following the instructions to the letter, they are the most fiddly and impossible things to put together thanks to the built in peg things . They are also completely unforgiving should you need to undo any mistakes you make. They are very flimsy and poorly made. Avoid.1

EKET Cabinet, white, 35x35x35 cm

From grandfather's fishing boxes to playful storage

When product developer Petra Kammari Enarsson was a young student and often moved, she used to furnish her apartments with old fishing boxes given to her by her grandfather who lived on the west coast of Sweden. Years later, when Petra was developing the new EKET storage series, those boxes came to mind. How could she make the series as flexible as the boxes?

New technologies, new hobbies, a new family member ... both small and large changes affect life and people's needs at home. Not least when it comes to all the things that we need space for. Petra Kammari Enarsson is a product developer at IKEA and often visits the homes of customers to experience their everyday living and how good storage can make life at home a little easier. She remembers a family in Copenhagen which expanded every other weekend with the daughter from a previous relationship. ”She didn't have her own room, but the family had a solution where she had a loft bed in the living room and her private things were in a chest on the floor”. Petra thinks it's a good example of how more and more people are living in small spaces, and that a large part of everyday living takes places in the living room where we want things to be both practical and stylish.

Flexible furniture for new needs

Another obvious trend around the world is that many people move more often - just as Petra did when she was young. ”The problem is that a lot of storage furniture is so inflexible – upon moving or new needs arising, they can't be adapted. This means storage isn't optimal and it's difficult to keep track of all your things”. These insights inspired Petra and her colleagues to start looking at a more flexible and personal storage solution – something that can easily be updated so that people don't have to buy new furniture as soon as something in life changes. Petra then started to think about those fishing boxes she had when she was young and which were so easy to stack and move as needed. What if you could make a piece of furniture which consists of various smart modules that can be easily moved around, removed and added to?

Building with blocks

Petra and her team started by ordering cardboard boxes in various sizes. They took the boxes to different room environments where they moved them around like building blocks – stacking and combining them in various ways. The team also researched detailed facts about storage: on average, how many magazines do we have at home? What’s the ideal height for people to put down their mobile phones? ”Many of us put keys, telephones or bags in a specific place when we come home. We usually do it automatically, without thinking about it”, says Petra. The height that seems to suit most people is 80 cm, so a shelf at that height was a given in the mix of shelves, drawers and cabinets in different colours and styles that eventually became the EKET storage series. ”I'm so pleased that we chose to prioritise playfulness and freedom of choice with all the colours and sizes of EKET”, says Petra, who's looking forward to visiting more homes. ”I think that the customers will find lots of exciting combinations that we haven't even thought of!”.

Material

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
