Great for storage, tricky assemblyAnonymous reviewerI love this piece. It looks great and you can fit loads in it. I put this together by myself but had my 10 and 12 year old help me stand it up once it was done as im only 5ft2 lol. It took me maybe 4 hours and was tricky on some parts, like the back board as others have mentioned. It got frustrating, but its doable. I wouldnt have bought it if i went off the reviews of others but im glad i did. It's my favourite piece of furniture now4
Terrible, avoid!Anonymous reviewerI’ve built a lot of flat pack, the “sliding” on of the back panel is near on impossible. The build quality is poor, not to Ikea standards.
You’ll spend a couple of hours trying to slide ok the rear panel which will likely result in damage and then the whole thing bows so the panel pops out in the middle.1
No instructions for this formatAnonymous reviewerLike other reviewers, the finished product looks good. Getting there is a whole other thing.
I get where IKEA is going with this modular approach giving more options from similar components. Unfortunately, the instructions do not reflect the varying setups it’s selling on the website.
The frame instructions do not flag to check if you’re opting for raised legs vs. standard ones. I did the backboard in the complete opposite way to the instructions to avoid obvious flexing difficulties. There is no explanation of pros/cons on the shelf supports you screw in vs. the ones that come with the shelves. There’s also no guide on the shelf layout.
Now none of these can’t be worked out. But this isn’t the IKEA I bet most people are used to. 2
Don't botherAnonymous reviewerThe manufacturing of this design is just not right. The whole frame bows in the middle and is literally held together by the shelves. I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to get the backboard to fit in place; but it doesn't.
To make the unit you have to buy 2 of a smaller unit, and both have the same problem.
It's standing so it'll do, but I'll be adding wood and screws to the frame to strengthen it because I've spent too much time on them to have to will to send them back. Not worth the money.
Go for the Billy instead, it's better quality.2
Very poor assemblyAnonymous reviewerI have built much IKEA product over the years and whoever designed this needs sacking! The tall cabinets have long backs that need to be inserted into grooves which is a nigh on impossible task as they keep falling out over the length. This is compounded by the fact that they are supplied folded in two so have no rigidity when trying to insert them. I have an engineering background so have found a way using support poles and sticky tape to assist inserting them but to the average layman this is beyond their scope. To then add insult to injury you have to attach the bottom without the back falling out. This, coupled with the flimsy plastic screw clamps (Should be metal) make for a poor piece of design as the furniture itself is good. Why not have the traditional nailed back pieces? For this reason it is hard to recommend this.1
Very difficult to assembleAnonymous reviewerAfter waiting 4 weeks for delivery I was looking forward to assembling my units. I never usually have a problem but these are impossible to construct if you follow the instructions. I couldn't find a way of contacting IKEA for advice so had to hire a professional to help. He fortunately found another way to assemble. You will need at least 2 people and a lot of space. The final product does look great though.3
Very good storageAnonymous reviewerVery good double storage. Roomy cupboards and deep display shelves. Construction was slightly tricky as it requires three people to easily put it together. There are slightly visible seams down the back panels, however from a few feet away it's not too bad. Some of the holes for the shelf pins are not drilled very well as they don't actually go in. As a whole the unit is very nice looking and functional.5
