IKEA’s Buyback and Resell Offer is back, supporting a more affordable way to shop

IKEA has announced an enticing limited time offer for its popular Buyback & Resell scheme. It comes as IKEA opts out of the traditional Black Friday promotions for the fourth year and instead, is offering IKEA Family Members the chance to sell their pre- loved items back to IKEA in return for a gift card.
During IKEA’s alternative Black Friday offer from 21st November until 2nd December 2024, IKEA will enhance the already appealing Buyback and resell scheme. IKEA Family members will receive an additional 25% on top of their estimated Buyback price¹ to help customers shop more sustainably and affordably during the busy shopping period in the lead up to Christmas.
All customers need to do is simply get a quote for their item online and bring it back to an IKEA store to receive IKEA gift card. Items customers wish to bring back to store must be registered between the offer dates and must come back to IKEA on or before 2nd December using the IKEA Buyback & Resell tool. The easy-to-use tool provides an instant valuation for select furniture pieces from the IKEA ranges, making it much simpler to contribute to the pre-loved economy.
The popular Buyback & Resell scheme was launched by IKEA in 2021. Since then, the Swedish retailer has bought back furniture to the value of over £3.4 million that's been given back to its customers through gift cards. In total, over 100,000 pieces of furniture in the UK have gotten a new life with an average buyback value of £53.
As with all IKEA gift cards, there will be no expiry date on when new purchases need to be made, encouraging people to only buy items when needed. All Buyback & Resell items will be resold as second-hand, in the IKEA Re-shop & Re-use areas, which can be found in-store. For any items that cannot be sold, IKEA will recycle these products.
Any IKEA gift card received using the Buyback and Resell scheme can also be used on Re-shop & Re-use, which allows customers to browse online and reserve second-hand IKEA items from the comfort of their home for collection from their selected store, making the process even easier and more accessible.
At IKEA, we continue to establish new initiatives to enable and inspire the many people to prolong product life and help them to shop more affordably and sustainably. IKEA UK and IE has over 400 recovery co-workers dedicated to prolonging product life - offering free spare parts, striving for zero waste and recovering value from materials.”
With the Buyback and Resell offer, it means customers next IKEA purchase can be more cost-effective, while their used items can find a new home. You bring it back; we buy it back - everyday! It’s one of the many ways we are taking the lead in the transition to a circular economy and enabling the many people to give their used furniture a second or third lease of life.
Those not currently an IKEA Family Member can do so by signing up for free here. Members will receive exclusive offers throughout the year, along with access to in-store workshops and events. Find out more information on the IKEA Buyback & Resell scheme here.
