Transitioning towards a circular business
At IKEA, we’re working to become a circular business. From the way we source energy and materials to how we design our products and run our operations.

We’ve set ambitious goals
- To enable our customers to acquire, care for, and pass on products in circular ways
- To design every product from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished and finally recycled
- To only use renewable and recyclable materials
- To advocate, collaborate and form business partnerships to promote a circular economy

Many of our best ideas are remade from recycled materials
Our ZEBRASÄV lamps put recycling at the heart of design. One is made with at least 50% recycled plastic, the other with at least 90% recycled paper pulp.
Second chance corner
At IKEA , sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. That's why we have a Second chance corner - both online and in-store - where you'll find a selection of products ready for a fresh start. From showroom models and repackaged items to outgoing collections and slightly damaged goods, every piece gets the chance to be loved again.
Mountains of recycled mattresses
We don't just dream of turning old mattresses into new materials. Our investments help turn used mattresses into something new.
At IKEA Belgium we recycle all our mattresses via RetourMatras.
Through their modern process, up to 90 percent of the material in a mattress can be ready for reuse.
Love it longer
Within the next few years, the potential to repurpose, repair, restore, reuse, resell or recycle will be built into every IKEA product. Even today, there’s probably an easy way to prolong the life, and value, of your furniture – helping to refresh or refurbish your home with small means.
On our way
As part of our journey to transitioning towards a circular business we’re designing for a circular future.
In 2024, through our Buyback Service, we repurchased over 495,000 used IKEA products that customers no longer needed and resold them. We provided over 25.8 million free assembly parts to 2.2 million customers to help them repair our products and keep them in use for longer.
