The eco-friendly IKEA return service is the ideal way to dispose of your old mattress or electrical appliance when we deliver your new one. You can trust us to recycle, reuse or retire your old things in whatever eco-friendly ways are available.

The return and recycling service is free of charge for mattresses and electrical appliances. You can return as many articles as you purchase. So if you buy one mattress, we’ll take one back. It’s a convenient way to free up space for your new purchase and one less thing on your to-do list!

Return a mattress when a new one is delivered: free 

We take your old mattress with us when we deliver your new one. State that you wish to use the return service when you book delivery.

Return an electrical appliance when a new one is delivered: free

Let us do all the lifting. We take your old appliance with us when we deliver your new one. State that you wish to use the return service when booking delivery. 

If your old IKEA furniture is in good condition and you can bring it to the store yourself, you might be able to exchange it for a refund voucher through the IKEA Buyback program. If you want to remove things like packaging, light bulbs and batteries, you can bring them to an IKEA store for recycling.


How the IKEA return and recycling service works

  1. Buy the new IKEA products you want, need and love. Decide what needs to be removed from your home to make space for your new purchases and whether we can help you with that. We’ll take away non-IKEA products too, although not all types of products are eligible.
  2. Return and recycling services happens together with your IKEA delivery service by truck. Ask one of our sales co-workers in-store about it or during a remote planning appointment of Planning and advice service. 
  3. Prepare your old product for pick-up. Everything you want us to take away must be immediately ready to go when we arrive. Make sure that all products can be safely and smoothly removed from your home. 
  4. Say ‘tack’ and ‘hej då’ (thanks and goodbye!) to your old things.
  5. All old products are responsibly disposed of. Enjoy your new purchase! 

Good to know

Here are some important details to keep in mind:

  • Your old products will be picked up at the same place as the delivery destination and on the delivery date.
    - If you have chosen delivery to the front door of your house or building, you need to place your old product outside at the front door of your chosen address.
    - If you have chosen delivery to a room of your choice, our transport partner will pick-up your old product inside your home. The products should be accessible as close to the entrance door as possible.
  • You can return as many articles as you purchase. If you buy one mattress, we’ll take one back.
  • We cannot dismantle or disassemble any products to remove them. If your product does not fit through the door you’ll need to take it apart yourself.
  • Electrical appliances must be freely accessible, disconnected from water/electricity and drained of food, water, etc.
  • The product must be in good condition. To ensure hygiene and safety, the transport provider may refuse removal if the product is not in satisfactory condition.
  • Before pick-up, old mattresses must be placed in a protective plastic cover. You can get one from customer service in the store.
  • Note: this service is not available when you shop online. If you may need to add this service to your online order, contact us or book it during a remote planning appointment.

​​Through their modern process, Up to 90 percent of the material from a mattress can be ready for reuse.
