How do I make a filler piece for my IKEA kitchen?

If you have a gap between your kitchen and the wall, or between two cabinets, a filler piece is the ideal way to close it. Here is how to make and install a filler piece for a neat, finished look.

What you need

  • Cover panel (available online or in-store)
  • Saw to cut the panel
  • UTRUSTA corner brackets (ref: 403 059 71) for filler pieces wider than 10 cm
  • Adapter and fittings (included with the cabinet)

Steps to make the filler piece

  1. Measure the gap
Take the exact measurements of the space you want to fill.
  2. Cut the panel
Use a cover panel and cut it to the correct size.
  3. Fix the filler piece
For filler pieces wider than 10 cm, use UTRUSTA corner brackets for a secure fixing.

Installing a filler piece on a 128 cm METOD corner base cabinet

For the 128 cm METOD corner base cabinet, you need a filler piece so the door can open fully.
Here is what to do:
  1. Prepare the filler piece
Cut the cover panel to a width of 7.5 cm or more, depending on the space you have.
  2. Attach the filler piece
Use the adapter and fittings supplied with the cabinet.
Follow the assembly instructions on pages 29 to 31 for correct installation.

Filler piece for a built-in fridge or freezer

You must place a filler piece of at least 5 cm between the wall and the cabinet for the fridge/freezer. This ensures you can open the door and easily reach the drawers and boxes.
