How can I improve my IKEA Kreativ scan?

Following the quick tips covered in this article will ensure that you’ll take the best possible scan of your own room.

  1. Position yourself correctly
Stand as far back as possible, ideally with your back against a wall or in a corner, to capture a wide view of the room. Make sure the floor is visible in the photo.
  2. Ensure good lighting
Open the blinds and turn on the lights. A well‑lit room produces a clearer and more accurate result.
  3. Take the wide‑angle photo
Aim toward the center of the area you want to design.
If you’re using the 5‑point panoramic method, follow the targets, wait for each checkmark, and move your phone slowly with controlled motions.
  4. Review the preview and accept
Make sure the image is complete, bright, and sharp.
If everything looks good, confirm to continue.
  5. Align the images
Roughly align the wide‑angle photo with the image shown on screen.
A quick, approximate match is enough.
  6. Measure the room
Move your phone in a slow, wide figure‑8 motion, capturing the walls, floor, and ceiling.
The scale accuracy is generally over 97%, with a margin of error of 6 cm or less.
  7. Complete a second scan if needed
Some devices require this step (except those with LiDAR).
Take a step to the left or right, align the images, and repeat the figure‑8 motion.
  8. Access your scanned room
You’ll receive an email once your room is ready.
You can find it in the app (Profile → Settings → IKEA Kreativ → Saved rooms) or on your IKEA online dashboard.
