Great bed, but impossible to wash the fabric panels.DanielleWe bought this bunk bed 3 years ago for our then 6 & 8 year olds. Within 6 months it started to squeak quite a bit. Now it squeaks and creaks anytime either of them turn over. It's not a huge issue and they've never mentioned it, but it irritates me a bit. The most frustrating thing about this bed is it is impossible to remove the fabric to clean it after it's been assembled. Three years of constant use and the front panel is dirty on the top edge. Considerably so that I really need to put it in the washing machine as it looks awful. I've taken out a bunch of screws, then gone back to the assembly instructions and realised that I have to disassemble the ENTIRE bed to remove this one fabric panel. This is not at all practical. For a kids bed it should be removable so it can be washed. I expect better solutions from IKEA.3
Awesome bunk bed, but you need patience when buildingDavidMany people complain that the holes do not line up, but you need to keep all of the screws somewhat loose, you can tighten everything down when you are fully assembled. During assembly, keeping the screws somewhat loose allows you have some adjustments when aligning parts which are perpendicular. I would also recommend trying out all of the Ikea mattresses. You don't need to use the thinnest one.5
Sturdy and very spacious DaliaThis is a very spacious bunk bed, Big enough for kids up to maybe 10, depending on height and comfort, I wish it was easier to clean the fabric though! 5
Torture to assemblyAnonymous reviewerThis is the most difficult Ikea product I've ever assembled. I've built half a kitchen basically myself; their solid wood bunks; twin beds (so easy); plenty of easy Kallax and Billys; office chair; tables; Strandmon armchair; cribs; outdoor picnic benches and table, and probably more. The ONLY reason to buy this bunk is if you need the dimensions. I needed the narrowest bunk bed possible, and this 40.5 inch width JUST fit, whereas I couldn't make 41 inches work. There is NO other reason I can figure out to buy this bed. Especially when the fabric can be destroyed with scissors or puked on. I'm not done building this, and I knew I would mostly regret my purchase from the start, I just had no other option of how to fit a bunk bed in a specific attic space. DO NOT BUY.1
Buyers BEWARE!SashaHoles do not align! After trying to figure out the instructions after like 30 minutes and finally getting the first parts done we ran into the biggest problem yet. I'm so disappointed that when trying to attach the larger pieces the holes did not match up at all. I was told to exchange item when I called online just to get home and run into the exact same issue. Now I'm stuck having to take everything back a second time. And I don't wanna have to pay 100 dolls for assembly.1
Vital BunkbedDianaMy kids upgraded from the smaller bunkbed to the Vital one. It is taller and has more head space on the bottom bunk. It is raised just enough to fit the collapsable storage boxes sold from ikea. My kids are loving the new bunkbed.5
Vitval Bunk BedHungThis is a great product, though a bit of an install, even to Ikea standards, took a little longer than I thought it would take. The frame is great, love the lower profile which allowed for a lower ceiling height, most bunk beds I looked at required a much higher ceiling than I have. The only thing I am not too fond of is the ladder to climb to the top bunk, maybe I am getting older and kids might have an easier time, but it was a struggle for me to climb up to test. I think it is because it is straight (which i assume was to save space) as opposed to most that are a little angled to make getting to the top bunk easier. Other than that, this bunk bed fits what I needed. 4
Solid bedMichaelBed is really solid, easily assembled with two people. Kids love it. 5
Nightmare to assembleSoniaI purchased this bed thinking that it would be fairly easy to assemble. Wrong. If you dont have some type of knowledge on on how to create holes on a steel frame then you should definitely NOT purchase this bed. The holes did not align making it impossible to put together. I have a drimmel set and had to extend the holes that were pre-made to align with the part that you screw in. I thought about returning the bed but at that point I had invested too much time and energy in assembling this bed. It took nearly 9 hours of coming up with ways to not only align the holes but trying to understand the very vague instructions that came with the bed. I did assemble it and was glad to be done. Unless you're up for a long, time consuming, headache of a challenge, I would definitely stay away from this bed.2
Assembled fine but not the bestAshleighI had no issues putting this together and I did it all by myself while my husband took a nap after helping him put our bed together. It isn't the sturdiest of beds and for lightweight children might be fine. If you happen to have kids that are hard on their toys, clothes, and furniture skip this and go straight for the solid wood bunkbeds. They will tear this thing to shreds in a heartbeat. Ask me how I know. Save yourself the headache and money and go for a solid good quality wood frame. In idea this was a great option but in action it was just a waste of time, money, and patience. 2
Buyer beware. Holes DO NOT line up.JamesDO NOT purchase this bunk bed under any circumstances. We bought it a few years back and it took HOURS to assemble. As others have already written, the instructions are confusing and unclear. Putting the canvas on the rails is particularly time consuming, and as everybody has reported, the HOLES DO NOT LINE UP!!! This is not the kind of straightforward, easy assembly you expect from IKEA furniture. We partially disassembled it when we moved, thinking it would be easier to assemble the second time around. NOPE. We're having to hammer in nearly every screw, and even then we can't get some of them to go into the holes. After two hours of putting together pre-assembled panels, we're only half-way through. Please, please, please DO NOT purchase this bunk bed. Find something else. I am three seconds away from hauling it to the dump. I would give it away for free, but it would be cruel to inflict this cursed bed from the the netherworld upon an unsuspecting victim.1
Holes do not align, the most difficult Ikea assembly I have ever doneMeetaProduct has a defect where the upper gaurd rail holes do not align, I was able to assemble it to be functional enough however the product should be corrected or give free installation and assembly with the product so some of customer's pains can be voiced out to the manufacturer, Very sturdy bed, however needs improvement and better quality check, wont be returning but would like the feedback to be taken seriously.2
most complicated assembly everHelathis took us over 3 hours to assemble, through that piece of paper away, useless1
BedsVernonOh my God... Looks good, the kids love them... But what a pain to put together.5

The bed is very tough to installSubhashThe assembly took me 8 hours because the instructions were poor and the directions on piece is not proper. The holes are drilled but not correctly. I am really disappointed with the item assembly.1
Time consuming installationJitenInstallations was to much time and with no information about it1
POOR QUALITY CONTROLWillieI will not recommend this bed, 80 percent of the holes don’t line up. Poorly designed. The parts are not labeled or numbered you have to rely on pics to itdentify parts.1

VITVAL Bunk bed frame, white/light gray, Twin

More relaxing, less materials

Where do your children spend most of their waking hours at home? Quite likely the answer is in their bed. Because when life for slightly older children today often revolves around phones, tablets and friends, a lot more space than that “hub” isn’t really needed. With VITVAL loft bed and bunk bed, we wanted to make comfortable and cozy beds for all children who prefer hanging out there. But the goal was also to considerably reduce the amount of materials to save on nature's resources.

Metal is a durable and stable material and really suited VITVAL bed frames. The question was just how much we could reduce the amount of the metal used without decreasing stability and safety. Product developer Anna Carme and her colleagues performed detailed calculations and safety tests. "We came a long way", says Anna. "But it was not enough ― we thought the bed frames were still too heavy."

30% less metal

Experimenting with materials led to the team replacing the bed's edges with fabric. This meant that they managed to reduce the amount of metal by almost one third compared to similar beds. "We found a strong polyester material that also gives the bed a nice and cozy feel ― both when the children hang out there with friends and when it’s time to sleep."

Easy to assemble

"The fabric is mounted on the frame", explains Anna. "And to ensure that the assembly is simple for all parents, we invited a number of people to test it out." The tests then led to the team dividing the fabric into sections and making the yellow edge bands more flexible so that they are easier to pull on. "I love playing detective, to look for and investigate what we have for different alternatives", says Anna. "Nothing beats the feeling when you finally find a good solution."

Material

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.

Form design process

More relaxing, less materials

The idea with VITVAL loft bed and bunk bed was to make comfortable and cozy beds for all children who like hanging out with their phones, tablets and friends. But we also wanted to save on nature’s resources and limit the amount of metal in the beds. So how do you achieve two so different goals at the same time? Our solution was to make the bed edges out of a strong polyester fabric that gave the bed a nice and cozy feel ― and we thereby reduced the metal by 30% in each bed.
