Many Failures From Water Inside BulbsGregoryThey are outdoor rated. We put up eight strings. About 10% of the bulbs now have permanent water in them, and we are in mild northern California weather. So they are not at all well sealed. This first happened during year one, but over time algae grows in the water which is then greenish brown. About 2 - 3% of the (many) bulbs have completely failed and you cannot change them without soldering and resealing the cord (we have two electrical engineers in the family).
They need to seriously revisit the water seals. Off-shore quality, not great, but a lovely Ikea design, so this could be a PERFECT product with some effort.
Please DO NOT listen to folks saying they are "too brignt" or "too dim" because then those of us happy with installed Svartra lights will have glaring mismatches as we add strings.
Lovely string lights, but too bright for nighttime ambianceRyanLove the look of these lights, but when zigzagged on a balcony I found them to be too bright for a cozy ambiance. Kind of surprised by another review stating these to be dim. I feel like IKEA missed the mark by not allowing these to be dimmable LEDs. Bummed to have to return these, as the style, hanging hooks, and long extension cord made these all a winner over the competition. Please look into adding in-line dimmers to outdoor lights, IKEA. String lights aren’t necessarily for useable light, more so for ambiance.
